The idea of the government "blocking" truly useful things that are capable of misuse is folly because there are so many of them, and it flies in the face of the concept of human rights. How much C4 can your boat hold, or your car? Yes, there are limits on the use of useful things, and ought to be, but wholesale "blocking" of such things is neither just nor wise. I'll be very interested to see where this ends up being offered and what the proclaimed limitations (markets covered, area coverage within each market, WX limitations, time of day coverage, customer procedures at the delivery site, cost, etc.) will be. I particularly want to see the breadth of items available and the geographical coverage. There have to be tens of thousands of items available on Amazon that meet the 5 lb. criteria but it will be interesting how many of those will qualify for 30 minute delivery and what the market coverage will be. ATC (by AI, in all probability) at the central warehouse where all the drones serving a 30 mile circle will have to come and go should be something to see too. Each mission will be <= 1 hour so should be a pretty busy little heliport at times. I expect package loading will be automated, not by ramp rats. This must be a fairly hefty drone to lift five pounds of payload with a combat radius of 15 miles. That's going to take some pretty powerful battery packs. I can't see anything in the new image to give me any sense of scale, but it's interesting that 4 of 6 rotors are 3-bladed and the remaining 2 have only two blades. I'm sure there's an engineering reason, but it's not obvious at this point. I'm utterly unable to envision a path to profitability for this, but have to applaud the engineering if they can make it workable from a practical if not an economic perspective. The hardest part, logistically and economically, in my estimation is always going to be the warehousing and the logistics train to support that unless the items available via this service is pretty limited, i.e. a few thousand SKUs. Not cheap and not something you could do in your own shop unless you're pretty well equipped. I think the has > $250 just in pipe fittings but it's kind of neat to watch if not exactly practical for everyone. 1 Link to post Share on other sites
