I garnered the mid range specs and prices of specialist FSX builders showed it to our 'just around the corner' pc shop and they came in cheaper. As they'd built our previous pcs we trusted them and their support was excellent.ie same day turn-around when possible. It still chugs my modest FSX along merrily, no CTDs etc. I hope I'm not speaking too soon. In the meantime, hats off to Matt at Chillblast for supporting Mutley's. Link to post Share on other sites

I'm not entirely sure whether the saga is madly helpful to anyone, but I posted it as a simple account of what happened to me. (FWIW). I'm seriously annoyed about the USB3 thing, mostly because it was a very important factor for me when I specified the upgrade but hey - life's like that. 88-) > "In the meantime, hats off to Matt at Chillblast for supporting Mutley's..." Very scary seeing that Drop Damage...i'd be worried that kind of hit might eventually crop up a loose connection/solder joint someday...possibly harm a CD bearing or other internal damage...who knows? Sorry to get you paranoid I wish sensitive component suppliers would attach Gforce meters (they break and stain if the package is dropped hard) to verify if something was handled poorly (and encourage better package securing in transit...it could well have been a hard Braking incident on the road that caused your putter to fly off a truck shelf or something like that ) I had a local business upgrade my FSX machine instead of rebuilding it myself, the price was reasonable, and I have local face to face support if I need it ( I have needed it once). I have been tempted to build a dedicated machine from scratch, but suspect that I would also go with a premade machine. (..those chillblast machines DO look nice). Tim Harris 1 Posted August 1, 2015 Report Share Posted August 1, 2015 Good review, I'm putting together almost the same system, except with a 980ti, I'll be assembling it myself though I've always recommended if you get a shop to 'build one' then make sure you drive there to pick it up and carefully strap it into a seatbelt and drive home slowly those delivery guys like to play footy with them, or stick forklift prongs in em Link to post Share on other sites

Bit shocked by the drives being knocked so far out of place in transit .. (reminiscent of my last YODEL experience) As a homebuilder I can say it was a very worthwile challenge to do it myself, but as there are some pretty good suppliers that have narrowed considerably the cost benefit against a DIY machine, I might be swayed in the future. Being able to back up to an external drive through a USB3 connection at a reasonable speed is a huge benefit and not getting it when you specifically opted for it has got to be half-past disappointing. He introduced us to a new term we'd never heard before, a "Bring Your Own Hammer" meeting. It goes like this. He summons you to his office and tells you to bring your own hammer. When you arrive he has you put a certain part of your anatomy on his desk and then instructs you to pound on it with the hammer until he tells you that you can stop.
