  1. Nice piece of work. This guy has way too much time on his hands. John
  2. Do you really need FSX if Steam (I assume when you refer to "Steam" you mean FSX-SE) is working OK? John
  3. +1. Welcome back. Re Win10, I love it, but declined to go the upgrade route on an old computer. I waited until I was ready for a new machine and got a factory-installed Win10 - no problems. Sorry you're not liking AH2 but we have to remember that the original AH was a ground breaker and if you're happy with it, that's fine. It was a great piece of work. FSX-SE is rock solid for me, but I also like P3D-V4. John

  6. I didn't write it, I just posted it because, a) I thought it was funny, and b) it rings fairly true for the basic philosophies of the two states. Yeah, it's a bit hyperbolic, but manages to present a pair of plausible stereotypes, correct or otherwise. John
  7. THE COYOTE PRINCIPLE California The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks the Governor's dog, then bites the Governor. The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie "Bambi" and then realizes he should stop because the coyote is only doing what is natural. He calls animal control. Animal Control captures the coyote and bills the state $200 testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating it. He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead dog and bills the State $200 testing it for dis
  8. While I agree entirely with the part about kids bringing home germs from school (the only things kids willingly share), I think a lot of folks travel sick because they've made their reservations and other trip plans in advance and the hassle and expense of canceling or rescheduling drives them to go anyway, sick or not. Still better than Greyhound... John
  9. There are really at least three ventilation situations in airliners... On ground, engines not running On ground, engines running, not pressurized In flight, pressurized I'm pretty sure the ventilation characteristics are different for all three, though the latter two are close, probably the only difference being the cabin pressurization outflow valves wide open or throttling. Anyway, probably standing in the boarding lines and in the line in the aisle to disembark might well be the highest risk. John

  11. Using stock FSX-SE data... SKI VOR is on the field ENSN NTD NDB is 2.4 NM @ 301º from ENNO KLD VOR is 22.4 NM @ 191º from ENDI (not one of the rally airports, but for reference) I think you must have borked your stock data with your navaid updates. John EDIT: I should have begun with, welcome to MH and the MEBAR. JDA
  12. Ouch! Terrible. I hope the pilot recovers from his injuries. RIP to the engineer and peace to his family. What a tragedy. John

    backup...

Not sure what the value of backups of Plan-G would be anyway. Everything can be reproduced from the databases in the various sims you might have installed, except possibly flight plans that you didn't save to the relevant sim, and maybe your settings. Not worth backing any of that up that I can see. John
  14. A bundle of airport diagrams for all the airports in the rally (including the fly-over navigation waypoint airports) is available for download in the MH Airport Diagrams Download Centre/Center. The link below will bypass that very long list of available country/state/province bundles and take you directly to the post for the MEBAR 2018 bundle. You'll be one click from the download site at that point. No registration or login is required. View/Download MEBAR 2018 Airport Diagrams John Allard

  16. Re the above post by Quickmarch - Both my brothers had their careers with CSX, a large US freight railroad. When Morton-Thiokol were building and shipping the SRBs, part of the documentation package included precautions in case of fire. I don't remember the exact wording but it was something along the lines of get everyone a long way away and let them burn. Any attempts to extinguish the burning solid fuel would be too little, too late and very ill-advised. With no nozzles attached and a core-hole through the middle, no significant thrust would be generated, so it was expected t
  17. If you listen closely through the roar of the Packard-Merlins and clatter of the .50 caliber Brownings, you can hear the faint strains of the Gotterdammerung being played on the piano keys as the Third Reich collapses in defeat. Love it! John
  18. Yeah, they kind of got that wrong, didn't they? I think the RAF tried some daylight bombing early in the war and had unacceptable loss rates. I do think they may have done some daylight bombing with lighter types, Mossies, etc, throughout the war but I suspect those were more tactical than strategic. John

  21. You have a better eye than I do if you can ID those items as coming from a Harrier. I can see them but sure wouldn't attempt to ID aircraft type. You could certainly be right, but couldn't prove it by me. Most US types go to Davis-Monthan for eventual scrapping but that doesn't preclude someone buying some military hulks for scrap and wrecking them themselves. I'm pretty sure that happens but don't have a clue where and by whom. John
  22. I heard once that a priest described listening to nun's confessions as much like being stoned with popcorn. John
  23. Brett, you appear to be wired just like me. Would love to do that. I wouldn't touch anything, honest. In that climate most of that stuff probably has copperheads living under it anyway. John
