  1. I was just being a mildly snarky smart-ass. Blame it on my old age and I meant no offense whatsoever if that was how it was taken.
  2. There are TONS of old intercept shots featuring all sorts of aircraft as the Russians frequently poked and prodded at the DEW-line and other locations globally during the cold war cat and mouse games. I'm sure the Russian bear-baiting pilots enjoyed it as much as the interceptor guys did....there is one image floating around of a Bear crewman flipping the photographer the bird but I cannot locate it.
  3. Would you mind asking if he flew his passengers from a third-person perspective?
  4. Well deserved win! The shot totally resembles things like this: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Convair_F-102A_%28SN_55-1350%29_intercepting_a_Soviet_Bear_bomber_060922-F-1234S-036.jpg Cold war antics and all!
  5. Hi Martin, Thanks for the bonus information regarding the aircraft. I think the PC-12/47 is my most-flown sim aircraft (well over 250 hours according to the STMA Hobbs meter) and at least visually the two aircraft look strikingly similar. But now that I know the true dimensions they really are nothing alike. The Pilatus is really tough to beat! Still the PA-46T is a lovely aircraft and that cockpit is just dazzling...and I am not a huge fan of glass either. Great review...I may consider adding that plane to my hangar.
  6. Really well-written review. And thats a cooler airplane than I initially thought and I love all the avionics. How does it compare from a flight/payload/range performance standpoint to....ummm...the PC-12/47? They look kind of similar in form and function to my eyes.
  7. And as promised Tom re-opened the Flight forum section for those interested. I can't see most of the responses anyway having blocked most of 'em lol.
  8. I don't want to speak on Tom's behalf by any means; however, I think he has made his viewpoint known regarding Flight here: http://forum.avsim.net/blog/1/entry-24-the-ms-flight-sim-my-thoughts/ and here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/362216-okay-folks-get-a-grip-time-is-upon-us/ You could always email him-I am sure you would get a well-considered response. In the end whats gone on with AVSIM regarding the Flight forum/related threads is-again-simply a case of not allowing the more disgusting and annoying %^*£-posters from interfering with the other 99% of the AVSIM population who are capab
  9. Something you might try to counter the issue is climb 500-1000' higher than planned altitude and then descend to whatever is planned for cruise (although 5000' for a big ole jet like that is pretty inefficient) prior to cutting to cruise power. Depending on the aircraft you may need to add more throttle to keep a low AoA until the fuel load burns off. As John mentiones its related to load, CG, and AoA required to maintain lift.....what I am describing is called "getting on the step" which is similar to trimming and getting a boat cruising efficiently. I discovered this myself when working on
  10. Honestly I think its more a case of keeping the barn door closed until the stables are mucked out . Seriously though....a fresh start when Flight is actually released to the public gives the opportunity for a more informed discussion rather than dealing with NDA-breaking speculation from all corners and keeps the more virulent for/against types at bay. I keep out of the whole Flight thing mainly as I really don't care either way....but it is interesting to observe how a large segment of the more argumentative trolls and useless "lookit my post count" types have dried up and disappeared. 11. A wonderful review of a scenery package that seems to keep calling my name! Twin Otter heaven....nice work on the piece.
  12. Its a great show. In my previous job I had access during trade days which made for some spectacular photo access Don't miss it!
  13. Errrrrrrrrr...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FvgP5hO99o Some of the best television ever by the way!
  14. Hi guys, Just from my personal perspective (I am NOT speaking on behalf of AVSIM by the way) the closure of that particular forum segment was directly related to the increasingly shrill number of ad hominem attacks, calls to "bomb Redmond", and continual trolling by rather dubious posters from both sides of the fence who contribute nothing valuable elsewhere...never mind certain folks that seem to confuse a high post count with "expert observation" and other assorted rubbish. Constructive criticism and debate are cool-the above was making that segment of the board an embarassment and unpleas

    F-14

That opening sequence for the film with the soundtrack remains one of the all-time greats......but we won't discuss the Mig....errrr....cough cough F5 bandits. Awesome shots too!
