  1. I don't know but you've made me want to try!
  2. What cooling are you using please BF?
  3. JV said they might do a version of Belfast city if sales justified it, but I don't think you're going to get much else from Orbx. On a separate note, what seemed to be the cause of the cliffs problem was the 10m mesh included with vol9 Ireland East photoscenery. When that was removed everything was ok. None of the other UK photoscenery appeared to cause any problems.
  4. Here's a couple of screenies...this is without using any external mesh though yet. Seems to be ok blending in apart from a little terrain mesh which needs amending. Overhead blend seems fine k
  5. It's unclear - the manual says the native resolution of NI Orbx mesh is 10m, but JV has said there isn't any included? Have asked the q on Orbx forums....but also checked the installed files and there is NO mesh included. First view of this there seems to be some water anomalies with streams being elevated somewhat above the surrounding terrain. Have installed EGAA Aldergrove and found some terrain problems and autogen exclusion issues there - have posted on UK2000 forum about that to see if it's just me or if there is a fix to be found. Cheers k
  6. BF I spoke to Lars on the Orbx forum and the only compatibility issue that should need to be addressed is a sloped flatten skirt to blend the terrain in with any non Orbx mesh. I was even considering using the FTX mesh all the time to avoid having to do even that....
  7. Chris I haven't got aldergrove yet but was intending to shortly is there anywhere that you'd like screenshots of? K
  8. Yes this is true according to JV they couldn't find any licence able data. I have the FSGenesis 10m Nextmap mesh for all Europe, and it purports to cover NI, so either FSGenesis is wrong (it is possible, they said it covered Jersey and it didn't!) or Orbx ran into some licensing probs (maybe costs of data? But pure speculation on my part there.....). I haven't had time to test it yet I'm afraid... (oh the joys of small babies and SWMBO k
  9. Got this, but will have to seriously moderate my FS purchases for a while now. With NI, Scotland, Horizon vol 7, CaptainSim C13, Alabeo PA38, Twotter Extended, Earth Simulations IOM already bought in the last couple of months, not to mention forthcoming PMDG777, treescapes, Orbx Southampton etc I will have some explaining to do to SWMBO!!!
  10. I'd be happy to have a look at some part of FTXG as part of a team effort but I must be honest and say I haven't got a huge amount of time and I already have 2 reviews in progress. If someone can come up with a terms of reference note for a group effort I'll approach any section I'm allocated with a sceptical but open mind, but I wasn't planning to buy FTXG for a while yet..... K
  11. I think the core issue is that of the lclookup.bgl file (hope I got that right!) because it contains data which determines how land class I'd displayed. I may be wrong because I don't now a huge amount about landclass and how it really works, but I was under the impression the allegation is that by altering the core lclookup.bgl to a custom Orbx one, Orbx are somehow 'locking out' other providers of landclass products thereby 'forcing' customers of FTXG to buy only their further add-ons and 'dominating' the market. On the other hand it is presented as a step forward in scenery that allows us
  12. No misunderstanding here - for areas of the world which I do not want specific photoreal detail for, FTXG with openLC and other payware content such as FTX regions and airports seems like it will be relatively cost effective I'm only going to go for Europe to begin with but I'll prob end up getting everything in time....
  13. Sorry, you are right Andrew, I omitted that from an earlier post - but I have used SBuilderX to relatively easily create custom sloped flattens to overcome those terrain anomalies, so it still holds true that you do not _need_ the region in order to make them compatible Not necessarily true Chris, as a maximum you would only have to have one of those in order to just get the autogen you would need. Nothing else from the region pack is necessary for you to have whatever OrbX say as far as I can tell. Even then, it may be possible to use the airfield without the wider autogen, I ha
  14. At least I might get 30fps once in a while with this
  15. Not necessarily true Chris, as a maximum you would only have to have one of those in order to just get the autogen you would need. Nothing else from the region pack is necessary for you to have whatever OrbX say as far as I can tell. Even then, it may be possible to use the airfield without the wider autogen, I haven't tested that properly though. Different airfields are produced by different devs who work in different ways and include different amounts of area coverage, so you may find better results without autogen with different airfields.having said that I bought Scotland for the extra l
  16. Hey Brian, Glad the Orbx thing is working for you It's growing on me in some places but it won't ever be my complete world... Sorting out the conflicts is not as simple as rearranging the scenery order - if only! There are a number of conflicts that need to be overcome, in no particular order; a) the Orbx photoreal sections are colour matched to the FTX region which is different to GenX. I actually prefer the colours of OrbX but there you go...ideally they need to she altered to match the photoreal. Easy to say, hard to do, since without access to the original source image you have to fin
  17. I don't think the uk airfields issue is anything to do with FTXG, certainly it in my mind anyway I confess I used the words easy and nearly as a deliberate qualification due to my relative lack of development experience. I have managed to make two airfields compatible (with the exception of matching the photoreal colours, which can only be easily done with access to the source material. OrbX has that, I don't, but the time involved is fairly negligible as it involves altering in photoshop and then running the image through resample a second time.) The time it took me to do so was approxima
  18. It's a simple matter of business and economics!!! Why make your product compatible with a competitor's product?. It doesn't make sense (cents) and, therefore, it doesn't make money. In this case, the UK-centric view of the world neither applies nor appeals to everyone. For example, I fly globally, including the UK and Europe, in all seasons and weather conditions. Strangely enough, so do others, and therefore Horizon VFR Gen-X and France VFR photo scenery (for example) and all their fine detail and lack of seasonal textures have absolutely no attraction. However, Orbx FTX England, Scotla
  19. Thanks Brian I guess the world domination stuff could be a red herring for me, I don't have any LC alternative products and am not really in the market for them either. But your comment on the 777 and where to go with it is spot on, so I shall reconsider whether FTXG is something I should invest in in time. I do like the lights I just wish they were hackable so they could be incorporated into photo scenery as well, if that were possible I would buy FTXG yesterday
  20. Hey Joe, I don't think it's a shame necessarily, Misha clearly has talent and drive and he will gain access to development material while Orbx will gain from his creativity. I just hope they don't stamp out his very welcome inclusive approach to scenery integration as part of the pact Otherwise all I can see is a mature and well thought out partnership that should hopefully benefit many people... K
  21. Misha is apparently only 15yrs old... However now he's working under the Orbx banner it will be interesting to see whether any new products retain compatibility with non-Orbx sceneries... Lets wait and see! K
  22. I just read a post by NickN on another forum which was not particularly positive about the way FTXG has been implemented. Now I have a great deal of respect for NickN having followed his guides before and had good results, so when he says something I take notice. Don't forget OrbX have sort of form for deliberately engineering non compatibility with their products...(GenX anyone?)...so it doesn't appear impossible that FTXG was deliberately created in such a way as to give Orbx control over what addons we use and how. I don't think JV is a daft bloke, so the only conclusion I can reach is
  23. Alabeo have released their PA38 Tomahawk. http://www.alabeo.com/index.php?accion=product&correl=95 I don't have much time for FSX at present, but as I learned to fly in one of these I'm definitely going to take her out for a spin - literally!
  24. Hey Chris, I don't have any of the Scotflight scenery yet, what's the quality like please? Is it something worth investing in? Cheers K
