Thanks to Andrew Godden, of Bluegrass Airlins, and Mutley's Hangar, of course (!), we have a new challenge - the 2012 Great Aistralian Air Rally - GAAR 2012. Starting from Cairns International, this year's GAAR takes us around Papua New Guinea and the northern section of the Barrier Reef before returning to Cooktown, just a few nautical miles from the start, 10 Flight Legs later. This is the last of the 10 Legs of the DCA World Rally, 2011, and takes us over the Andes, from La Rioja, Argentina (SANL) to La Serena, Chile (SCSE). Thie 5th Leg of the DCA World Rally follows the course of the Blue Nile from Debre Marcos, near it's source in the highlands of Ethiopia, through the gorges of the Upper and Lower Catarracts, to Damazin, by the man-made Rosieres reservoir. The challenge in this series of 10 flight legs is to understand the convoluted workings of the organiser! Like GARSA, you get a narrative for each Leg of the Rally and have to work out how to navigate correctly from start to finish. Now, I thought this Leg would be straightforward - after all, we'd just returned from Andrew's GARSA in Colombia and this Leg finished at San Luis (SKIP) just as th 4th GARSA Leg did. But I was wrong... Here we are taking off from Guillermo Leon Valencia (SKPP) - at just under 10000 feet, the old Dizzie kept stalling until I reduced the mixture to a bare minimum.

The 3rd Leg of DCA's World Rally is based in the south of France - from Montpelier, passing Marseilles, up the valleys towards the Alpes Maritime to Saint Crepin.
