  1. Just published is Jessica Bannister-Pearce's review or Orbx Software's Bella Coola Airport. Is this airport in north British Columbia worth a visit? find out here!
  2. Just published is my review of MCA Design's North American Airstrips Vol.1 This is the first release from this fledgling company see how they got on! Read on...
  3. Hello, This may be a stupid question, but I recently installed the FTX Tasmania demo because I wanted a glimpse of what orbx scenery looked like. I already have REX and when I went to the weather settings in free flight, it had replaced the REX option with a bunch of ORBX weather options. I start the flight and after a few seconds, REX updates as usual and it switches back to REX weather. Is it normal for ORBX to replace the REX weather setting for its own settings? And if so, does it even matter because REX seems to be working fine. Thanks
  4. Hello, I have been thinking of getting a texture add-on for fsx. I already have rex essentials+od, and enb series installed but I wanted something to improve the look of the dull scenery in fsx. Some people say GEX is better and others say ORBX is. More opinions would be much appreciated. Which is better for the money? Which one looks better? Which is more realistic? Also, I don't really want to buy both because I am not ready to spend that much. Thanks

  6. Here's my latest offering....
  7. Reprinted from the Orbx forum, with thanks. Given that each new FTX Global announcement raises more questions and in particular about third party landclass and mesh products, I thought it may be time to draw some diagrams of the architecture behind FTX Global and explain it that way. The first illustration is a (somewhat simplified) top to bottom data path for most scenery and airports. Notice that the default FSX texture pool takes up about 5.6GB on the hard drive. Also notice that Orbx FTX Regions and Airports are sellf-contained capsules which do not dip into the FSX architectur
  8. Welcome to Paradise! One of Australia's premier tourism destinations, Broome is a thriving town located in the Kimberley region of north-west Australia. A tropical oasis straddling the red desert sands and crystal blue waters of the world-famous Cable Beach, Broome is a melting pot of culture and history, richly sewn through its lucrative pearling industry and exploits during WWII. Broome Airport is the major regional hub for the Kimberley and north-east Pilbara regions - alongside a busy RPT terminal (served by Qantas, Virgin Australia, Skywest, Air North and Skippers Aviation), expect to se
  9. Just published is Kevin Firth's review of Orbx - FTX -EGHR Chichester / Goodwood There have been many discussions about using these new highly detailed Orbx airfields with the scenery they were designed for, FTX England scenery and integration with Generation X photo scenery. Kevin has taken the view from both sides. First and most importantly from the perspective of a FTX England scenery user, then as a user of Generation X photoscenery. We have scored this product twice so you can decide for yourself. Read on.
  10. Elstree Aerodrome is Russ White's second UK airport. Combining with 1cm, 2cm and 3cm resolution ground poly areas and with the on-location photography of John Lovell, you will be completely immersed in the scenery here. The aerodrome is located in Elstree, which is situated 2.6nautical miles east of Watford, Hertfordshire, England. EGTR started out in the 1930s as a small landing strip and came into its own during World War II when it was used for the overhaul and repair of military aircraft. After 1945 Halifax freighters operated from Elstree andseveral charter companies took up residence. Si

  12. Glacier Bay and then some! FTX Southern Alaska (SAK) offers much more than "just" the famous cruise ship destinations of coastal Alaska. It covers a whopping 200,000 square miles from Anchorage to Watson Lake (Yukon Territory), and Kenai to Juneau, with Valdez, Skagway, and Whitehorse as other major hubs. A wide variety of landscapes -- coastal fjords, braided rivers, spectacular glaciers, alpine tundra, lake-dotted muskegs, vast forests, and a few urban centers -- all have been recreated in great detail and accuracy. A dozen key landmark areas are featured with seasonal photoreal coverage an
  13. EGTH Old Warden, located near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire and is developed for FTX England. We have tried to capture both the history and natural beauty of the airport and surrounding area. Almost every single object seen in the real airport has been accurately modeled and positioned, allowing you to immerse yourself in a realistic flight simulation environment. Old Warden and the Shuttleworth Collection is a private aerodrome and operates unlicensed. The Collection is situated at Old Warden Aerodrome, one of the few traditional all grass aerodromes still in regular use. The Shuttleworth Collect
  14. The next in our expansion into the UK and Europe. Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain. Bordered by England to the east and the Irish Sea to the west, much of Wales' diverse landscape is mountainous. The Capital of Wales is a de facto designation usually applied to Cardiff since 1955. Although it shares a close political and social history with the rest of Great Britain, the country has retained a distinct cultural identity and is officially bilingual. Over 580,000 Welsh language speakers live in Wales, where it is spoken by a majority of the po

  16. EGKA is located in Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex and almost every single object seen in the real airport has been accurately modeled and positioned, allowing you to immerse yourself in a realistic flight simulation environment. Shoreham airport also now known as Brighton Airport is at the forefront of general aviation in the UK, and a major base for flying activities along the South Coast. The City of Brighton & Hove and the town of Worthing are within easy travelling distance from the Airport and Shoreham by Sea railway station will provide the means to get you to Gatwick, London and beyo

  19. Quote from John Venema CEO Orbx Simulation Systems Yesterday I sneaked in a "soft" announcement hidden inside a topic to gauge reaction. Needless to say it has been overwhelmingly positive. This project has been top secret and only a few people inside Orbx itself knew of its existence. This has been a product I have wanted to release for quite some time but only now do we have the depth of textures to cover the globe in a semi-realistic manner. In 2013 we will be releasing a FTX product for FSX and Prepar3D that covers the entire world with FTX textures combined from the twelve different reg
  20. The Eighth Wonder of the World. Orbx's first NZ airport is in one of New Zealand's most famous tourist destinations. Milford Sound is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island. It is situated within the Fiordland National Park, Piopiotahi Marine Reserve and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site. This is another stunning piece of artwork by Andreas Hegi and Heiko Glatthorn and they have created 3 airports for you to enjoy here. Included with Milford Sound Airport is NZMJ Martins Bay and the very tricky T004 Quintin Lodge. A perfect compliment to our award winning New Zealand Sou
  21. EGHR Chichester/Goodwood Airport is located in Chichester, West Sussex and is the first airport developed for FTX England. We have tried to capture both the history and the natural beauty of the aerodrome and the surrounding area. Almost every single object seen at the real airport has been modelled and placed, allowing you to immerse yourself in a realistic flightim environment. The airport was created on Goodwood Estate which was the home to the Dukes of Richmond for over 300 years and was donated by Freddie March, the 9th Duke, to help in the Second World War effort and was used by the RAF.
  22. Welcome to the Inland Empire. Historical Felts Field Airport (KSFF) is the GA airport servicing the city of Spokane, WA. Nestled adjacent the river in the scenic Spokane Valley, Felts is the GA hub for the Inland Empire (Inland NorthWest). With three runways (including a water runway), Felts is suitable for all types of simmers including jet flyers. Rich in history, the airport is home to a variety of well-known aviation companies and businesses, including Pemberton & Sons (owners of the oldest flying Boeing, a 1928 Model 40C), Rocket Aviation (who modify the famous Beechcraft Duke into t
  23. A few shots from a trip down the east coast of England from Newcastle to Hull. I took lots more but they have been set aside for the full review, these are the rejects Thanks for viewing!
  24. After years of waiting, the most anticipated region release from Orbx is here. This is the beautiful, green and lush country of England resplendent in all its glory and infinite charm. With FTX you'll experience England like never before with five distinct and accurately coloured seasons; summer, spring, autumn, winter and hard winter, and of course the famous FTX night lighting with 3D light poles. From the cliffs of Dover to the entire City of London to the Lakes District to Southampton docks and port, there is so much to see and discover in this wonderful country! Like our North American a
  25. I have just flown around the Lake District in FTX England this morning, Fan-"bluddy"-tastic! I have never been there before so no pre-conceived ideas and I am really impressed at the level of detail and superb performance. Admittedly I flew in the summer to help along the feel good feeling but nevertheless I am impressed. To a non-local this is as good as other regional Orbx sceneries, it's not totally real-world or photo realistic but that's not Orbx's thing. I am looking forward to having some of the scenery anomalies fixed, I found one and posted in their forums as well as others. Enoug
