KC-135R crash in Kyrgyzstan

Recommended Posts

Surprised to hear that the KC135 is still operational with the USAF - I recall installing a Singer Link-Miles visual system as part of a USAF KC135 sim refurbishment way back in 1984 - the KC135 was starting to get a bit long in the tooth even then.

Sorry for the crew and their families.

Ray.

So sad to see, Looking at the small area of the crash site I'd say the aircraft came down almost flat with very little forward speed. The undercarriage is almost exactly in its retracted position with just the nose gear moved slightly rearwards indicating a possible very small forward momentum. It's as though she stopped dead in mid air and just pancaked. Had the aircraft been moving forward then the debris field would have been spread out along a line of impact. This is well contained within that ravine so should be plenty of evidence for  the AIB or similar to investigate, I notice that the tail fin was pulled apart fairly quickly, it's intact in some shots and suddenly the rudder has gone and the spike tube on the top has been taken off and lying next to it.

Amazing, they're in the middle of no-where yet they get a signal on their cellphones! I've only got to go to the edge of the town and our signal drops! Vodafone...are you seeing this!!!

Alan,

a news report I saw mentioned that eye-witnesses had seen the aircraft explode in mid-air which would probably explain the scattering of debris.

Maybe a fuel leak, which seems to be a problem with aircraft tankers - even the more modern types.

yes but to get the range over there they up the output from the antennas so everyone is slowly cooking :)

they also dont need torches at night cause they glow in the dark !
