mutley 4,498
Just published is Jessica Bannister-Pearce's review or Orbx Software's Bella Coola Airport. Is this airport in north British Columbia worth a visit? find out here!
needles 1,013
A very nice, concise review Jess, thanks. I will, at some point in the future, decide to purchase Bella Coola, along with many other NA, Canadian and Alaskan airfields published by ORBX. Bella Coola looks just as stunning as all the other regional airfields and it is quite tempting to let our hearts rule our heads, when it comes to buying airfields, simply for the beauty they add to the scenery. The screenies you have included really do tempt me, but I'm going to wait until the price drops or, they come up with a bundle price, if indeed they do. Price really does play a huge part when it comes to purchasing these airfields when, as you point out, one might never venture that way again. Thanks for a nice review. Andrew Godden 945
Jess, Great review. Orbx's selection of some airports (if you can call some of them that) for development has always intrigued me too. Nonetheless, the output is always 'top notch'. I hadn't got into the FTX airport series until recently, but am now rethinking this after having purchased a few. The FlightSim Store have purchased all remaining stock of the boxed versions of the FTX airport series and are selling them for AU$14.95. Some titles are sold out but I believe Bella Coola is still available as it is still listed on their web site. A recent email I received from them didn't list it on their 'Limited Stock' list. See here. If that link doesn't work, go here and search for Orbx (Boxed) under Authors and Publishers on the left hand side. Cheers Andrew
brett 2,316
Thanks for the review Jess, very well written. You certainly have a way with words.
Quickmarch 488
Thanks Jess, great review. CYBD is in my AH backyard, so I get to land there often. Here's a shot taken under the default FSX scenery. Question for Alan or Andrew: What is the yellow aircraft featured in one (and shown in another) of the screenshots in Jess's review? C-FARA (or more likely CF-ARA) is a registration belonging to a C206. I thought I knew my Canadian bushplanes, but this one has me against the ropes. Vaguely Stinson-ish in the wing and landing gear, but not one I recognise. Seven cylinder radial - Conti R670, Wright R-760 maybe.
Andrew Godden 945
March, It's the Fairchild Model 24, probably the F-24 W40, with the Warner Super Scarab 7 cylinder radial engine. Cheers Andrew
Quickmarch 488
Thanks Andrew, Knew I could count on you. I wonder if the developers are just picking registrations out of a hat? It is possible that the registration has been reassigned although unlikely that it would appear as C-FARA on a vintage aircraft that will most certainly have started life with the registration CF-ARA. I'm not sure of this but it might be possible that a repaint requires the old CF- registrations to be repainted in the new format C-F. I do know that Canada reassigns registrations and that registrations are only assigned in the C-F or C-G format, these days.
brett 2,316
I looked up the registration hoping to figure out what aircraft it was but the latest user is a Cessna. The history only went back to '88 and included two other aircraft. Maybe they need to hire JanKees to get'em right.
Andrew Godden 945
Thanks Andrew, Knew I could count on you. March, Just all part of the service. Satisfaction guaranteed, but with an all care, no responsibility caveat. Cheers Andrew
Jess-b 420
Damn, I've got to try and keep up with things. In fairness, I have been rebuilding my fs PC. march, as Andrew said, the aircraft Is the Fairchild F-24. It's by lionheart creations and bill has done a great job with it. It's a little cramped but fun to fly. It felt very at home at Bella Coola along with the piper pacer. Brian, your right, its a beautiful place but a bit on the pricey side to enjoy on a whim. Still it makes for a fantastic exploration base. Best wishes, Jess B
