What do you use your hat for?

Having splashed out on a TrackIR, and previously user my Joystick "hat" for looking around, i find my joystick hat is largely redundant.

 

Track IR wont give you a 360 view, but that can be covered off by a left/right switch.

 

So what do you use your hat for?

I still have it bound to panning since I don't have TrackIR active on all my EzDoc cameras. Mainly I find using TrackIR way to tricky for finding a good angle when panning around in the outside view for screenshots.

I don't have TrackIR, so I use my joystick hat switch to look around the VC.

I have TIR but keep the hat set to pan. TIR is occasionally wonky, and Murphy's law tends to toggle the wonky on landing...I tend to Pause TIR on landing after using it to set my head in the best fixed view...which it is terrific at for fine adjusting that view.

I use a hat to keep the rain off my bald head.. 

 

Why not use it for elevator trim?

I use it to pan camera on outside view when making screenshots after pausing my TiR 5. Much easier to find good angles.

Never had problems with my TiR being "wonky" in any of the sims I fly.

I use my hat for begging.

 

For panning around exteriors it's good but in the cockpit it's too twitchy. I pan down for the foot warmer but end up on the flight engineers lap.
