wain 879
I have heard a lot about this and I have looked on their site but would like someone to explain what this does and does it sit ok wilth FTX Global and Vector, I have Open LC EU and I am wondering is PNW like that but for a region or am I understanding it wrong. Its only £15 but dont want it if it wont work with Global and Vector. I use FSX-SE (damaged FSX disc so changed after HD issue) and P3D v2.5 so are there any installation issues? Thanks Wayne
brett 2,315
It will work perfectly together, not to worry. The PNW region is a beautiful place and is full of improved airports and little farm strips. Being a region it is a bit more detailed than the openLC products that are intended to improve global areas within the FTXGlobal scenery. I have the PNW region along with Scotland, Wales, England, Australia and a few others running on top of FTXGlobal, Vectors, Mesh and openLCEU. On top of that are many FTX detailed airports so go for it, I think you might enjoy it. You can try the demos too for the PNW, ICELAND and Tasmainia. Don't forget to always install the ORBX Libraries last, after installing any of their products. Have fun exploring!!!
wain 879
Thanks Brett. I will purchase this when I get bk later...it does look good and bargain price too... Wayne
brett 2,315
Enjoy, wish I got it that cheap. Don't forget to check out their freebie section for some pretty nice airports that will work in the PNW region. (read carefully before downloading) Bowerman, on the southern coast, comes to mind as an outstanding freebie.
donnybalonny 46
PNW is a lovely addon. Its really a GA paradise with changing landscapes all over the region. The ORBX regions simply install above the global and vector, so there wont be any issues. Some of the freeware airports wont work in P3Dv2 some will. You´ll have to take a look on the ORBX forum. I dont know about steam.
wain 879
Installed PNW last night...just need a bit of time to go exploring. Both FSX SE and P3D look amazing now. Combined with REX I have what is looking really good to me...and flying Realairs Duke v2 is great..going to explore using the Quest Kodiak but just need a new small base for Air Hauler now.... Captain Coffee 2,030
Congrats, enjoy exploring...lots to see there. So many lovely little ORBx treated fields to check out. Cheers.
wain 879
Is Tacoma Seattle KSEA in the PNW area? Its just after installing PNW it looks like the runway/taxi ways have sunk... do I need to run the elevation configurator in FTX Vector after every install? Wayne
Captain Coffee 2,030
Did you install the latest ORBx library After you installed the PNW? I use Sea/Tac occasionally, no elevation issues for me...but...there are smaller fields here and there that I have found weird elevation problems...houses floating in air, runways on stilts...stuff like that. Not so much though that I have bothered to investigate it.
needles 1,013
You should run FTX Vector Config after every install of orbx scenery packages. Also in that Config you can enable/disable any airports you wish, that way it will correct any airport altitude anomalies. Also remember to always re install the latest Orbx Libraries, even if you have already installed them.
wain 879
Thanks to you both...I ran configurator and all sorted....latest ORBXLibs installed...looking good now....just to find a medium sized base in the middle of this area for AH.. Wayne
donnybalonny 46
How big is medium? Hvat about Bremerton? If you want a payware airport as your base, Skagit is a little bit bigger than the others but its in the north of the Region.
wain 879
Bigger than a grass strip... enough to land quest kodiak or beech b60...dont know the area at all... Wayne
Captain Coffee 2,030
I haven't started here personally, but have a look at s44 Spanaway. Lights, Asphalt, 2700ft runway, fair amount of parking, with a gate (found it searching 1-3 gate airfields in AH) and only 10k startup rent. Looks cozy too, and nicely located below the Puget Sound/Tacoma area. It's not a payware, just stock ORBx base upgrade treatment. cheers
wain 879
Had a look at this one Matt, it is very nice but very narrow, wouldnt mind dropping cargo there but not sure on a base, I found KNUW which is bigger, right on the coast, may open a base there, I did a few circuits around the area in daylight and at night time, I think it maybe a good base but obviously more expensive. Using REX and had a right old mix of weather but when the clouds cleared the area looked really nice. Wayne
donnybalonny 46
The orbx freeware Bowerman Khqm addon scenery is very nice and the area is beautifull. It would be a nice airport to come back to. Its on the coast between Seattle and Portland
wain 879
ok I wil take a look at that one to, chose the one at KNUW as it has a bit more there, no ILS but with the help of DME I found it easy in low cloud yesterday, also I have one of Johns charts for that one ...it is a great looking area with ORBX and REX weather...somewhere that looks even better flying reasonably slow and lowish.... Captain Coffee 2,030
Sounds like KNUW is a great choice. I like coastal bases. Easy to get home using the gps and altimeter should stuff close in on you. Fly high till clear of the coast, double back to the field using local knowlege of the terrain obstructions around the field, GPS for direction, and watching altitude. I don't DME/VOR well...so I (GPS)VFR in IFR conditions when necessary. Just now learning how to IFR, and having trouble catching glideslopes...so I am not relying on it in soupy conditions yet. Cheers and good luck on your new startup. Weather is going to be reliably awesome very soon.
wain 879
I spent around six months last year flying from Bristol to Cardiff just doing touch and gos to capture the glideslope, did it in all conditions, intially with AP just to see how it should work then using trim wheel / power / yoke etc. I use those airports as they are my local ones and it feels like I know where I am going. I always start with good intentions to learn the correct procedures but lately have been short on time. I dont do DME /VOR to good either but usiing Johns charts and having the GPS on for direction etc is helpful....would love to have the time to learn to do it all properly, must be a great feeling...
