French accents and bl**dy background music - short attention span rules, O.K.

So, wat's it to be, Martin, NACHO's or WIMP's? Or will they infer the existence of Dark Matter from the next highest Higgs Boson's energy resonance?

Oh, yes, don't forget this is rather off the flight sim topic - so keep it simple, eh?!?

Well it's almost double the energy of the first run. So yes, it will open up a new horizon for physics. Precisely what nature has in store for us I wouldn't speculate. However, I think we can be pretty sure that at those energy levels we stand a good chance of giving the standard model a bloody good shake up.

The number of particles produced in collisions is expected to increase by a factor of 10, so we should be able to get to know the newly discovered Higgs particle a lot better. As for physics beyond the standard model, that would be exciting wouldn't it?

SUSY, extra dimensions, exotic particles, dark matter, all these things would turn me on. Extra dimensions are my thing though, that would be lovely.

Dancing in the Dark - The End of Physics?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05n8jqs

Scientists genuinely don't know what most of our universe is made of. The atoms we're made from only make up four per cent. The rest is dark matter and dark energy (for 'dark', read 'don't know'). The Large Hadron Collider at CERN has been upgraded. When it's switched on in March 2015, its collisions will have twice the energy they did before. The hope is that scientists will discover the identity of dark matter in the debris.

The stakes are high - because if dark matter fails to show itself, it might mean that physics itself needs a rethink.

Is that Bruce Springsteen live in his 'Dancing in the Dark' Concert?

Though I did like 'Dancing on the Ceiling' by Lionel Ritchie.

'Dancing on My Own' by the Swedish singer, Robyn, is probably too obscure for most, except Micke.

While I agree on this with the background music your comment on accent is really negative.

It is so that some of us dont speak English with perfect Oxford accent. It is even so that this french accent can be easyer to understand for many of us than english spoken with English/irish/american/australian etc accents.

You should be happy that the rest of us try to speak your language and we will kindly invite you to speak other languages and we will be kind and polite if you cant speak it perfectly.

Personally I would rather watch Stock Car racing, everything goes around in a circle and collides with each other.

The bonus is that you can see it!  :D

To be honest I was very disappointed with this episode of Horizon.

It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, and was badly produced.

Why in gods name they had to have several scientists, their heads all on the screen simultaneously, all chanting the same thing at the same time, god only knows.

The music was also diabolical, damned annoying. The whole episode done in a quirky style that utterly irritated me.

Not what I expect from Horizon. To the BBC... we aren't morons BBC, we don't need it done in a away that would appeal to junior school kids. Sensible documentary style in future please, that would be great.

As for French accents in the video I posted... rather like them myself, and you won't find me being negative about anyone's accent to be honest. Regional accents yes.

Not sure why some are taking the mickey either, rather than taking this thread seriously.

I don't think people are taking the mickey, rather they are taking a light approach to the subject, and I include myself in that approach.

Lets face it, although in the correct forum, and a very interesting post, it is off topic for flight sims which is, after all, what this site is for.  It is something that most, perhaps all of, us here are little qualified to comment on. Indeed, I have only come across one man, a professor, and my brother-in-laws father-in-law, who was so qualified.  He spent most of his career working on it.      :D

As JG pointed out "...it is off topic for flight sims which is, after all, what this site is for...", again, a point which has been repeatedly highlighted on these "off topic" posts made by the OP and a point which seems to be constantly ignored.

Other than that, one shouldn't take themselves too seriously.

So, not taking the mickey, just injecting some much needed humour into a topic that for some, on a flight sim web site, is a total distraction, adds no value, provides no benefit, and is of no interest to flight simming, and is simply as boring as bat shit.
