mutley 4,439
I have been asked if I could recreate a very useful post from the Froogle forums to here. I have Pete's authority to do this so here goes. Please note I haven't changed any spelling or grammar this is the raw stuff! So it played out like this... viper Hi Guys, Anybody got ideas on how to get it working.....done all that Pete said .........still will not work....... Thanks Brian. yakdownpete Need a tad more info buddy, Simconnect setup is pretty straightforward the simconnect .xml and if you are using a network setup the simconnect.cfg in the docs /installed software folder Both files must have the same IP address - the one used by your FSX pc On the network pc you need the three simconnect versions That's it Here is info I have submitted previously it might help yakdownpete said: I'm not so sure your network setup is correct. There are three Simconnect Clients that should appear on your programs list in control panel on the networked pc Version 10.0.60905.0 Version 10.0.61242.0 Version 10.0.61259.0 On running the Simconnect.ini and viewing the log txt file my setup reports 0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61259.0 To check this is connecting have a look at the FSUIPC log file in FSX modules. when connected this is the output. I deliberately changed the simconnect.cfg to an incorrect IP address and ran FSX again. FSUIPC reported the same output each time 1966 Delaying SimConnect connection ... 31981 SimConnect_Open succeeded: waiting to check version okay 31981 Trying to use SimConnect Acc/SP2 Oct07 31981 Running in "Microsoft Flight Simulator X", Version: 10.0.61637.0 (SimConnect: 10.0.61259.0) 31981 Initialising SimConnect data requests now It is not failing to connect to simconnect. It is a network issue because I changed the IP address. No messages appear on screen - ASN simply shows -sim connection- Waiting for Simulator If FSUIPC shows connected then you probably need to review your simconnect.xml file and simconnect.cfg to verify their content and IP address, here is the content of my working files -obviously your IP address will be different, also your path to the FSX root folder simconnect.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?> <SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0"> <Descr>SimConnect Server Configuration</Descr> <Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <SimConnect.Comm> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Protocol>IPv4</Protocol> <Scope>Global</Scope> <MaxClients>64</MaxClients> <Address>192.168.0.6</Address> <Port>500</Port> </SimConnect.Comm> <!-- Example Global (remote) IPv4 Server Configuration--> <SimConnect.Comm> <Disabled>True</Disabled> <Protocol>IPv4</Protocol> <Scope>global</Scope> <MaxClients>64</MaxClients> <Address>0.0.0.0</Address> <Port>REPLACE_WITH_PORT_NUMBER</Port> </SimConnect.Comm> <SimConnect.Comm> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Protocol>Auto</Protocol> <Scope>local</Scope> </SimConnect.Comm> </SimBase.Document> simconnect.cfg file content <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?> [SimConnect] Protocol=IPv4 Address=192.168.0.6 Port=500 MaxReceiveSize=8192 DisableNagle=1 Your FSX dll.xml file should have the following entry added to the end <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?> <Launch.Addon> <Name>as_connect</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Path>as_srv\as_btstrp.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon> </SimBase.Document> Your FSX.cfg entry[Trusted] P:\FSX\as_srv\as_btstrp.dll.wabbocicwuclzuneirnhinrawraaeinkkkilkaun=1 Hope this helps viper Thank`s for the help sir........I`ll get back to you...... Brian. viper Hello again, I have managed to get SimConnect to work ....I say that, but I am not sure....I can run Plan-G software on the laptop that connects......but I cannot get TopCat to connect to FSX server or ASN. Brian. yakdownpete Hi Brian very sorry to hear you have had problems, glad you are up and running again FSUIPC log looks good, are you now using topcat ASN etc on the laptop connected to FSX If you have not setup sharing of specific files and folders on the laptop your main sim pc won't be able to access files on the laptop. In theory your main sim pc doesn't need to access the laptop to run the software. As a test try setting sharing on your topcat folder or any folder on your laptop and see if you sim pc can access it - it should be able to I use a nifty little piece of software to access both my network and sim pc using one keyboard and mouse it's called Inputdirector and for non commercial use it is free. I simply move the mouse to the edge of the main pc screen and it magically appears on the second pc screen, the mouse and keyboard then work on PC2, when I move it back to the main pc, the mouse and keyboard work on the main PC it is seamless and works really well. If you want to give it a try and need help setting it up (it's not complex) drop a post on the forum Link here for Inputdirector : http://www.inputdirector.com/downloads.html viper Hi Pete, I must be a bit thick Pete, my laptop will not talk to the main machine... I just rebooted the laptop and input a user and password..then it connects the shared drive........I did what you advised and shared WideFS which is on my laptop and when I clicked on PILOTPC on the left under network it found it.....So what files and folders do I need to share to make it all work........I think I am nearly there yakdownpete Hi can I check did you do this Place WideServer.dll and WideServer.Ini in the Flight Simulator Modules folder, inside your main FS folder. The files are in the wideFS folder on your laptop It's a short list of folders on your sim PC that should be shared, once a folder is shared all the files inside it are shared automatically c:\users\%username%\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\FSX C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X (your fsx install folder) c:\users\%username%\documents\microsoft flight simulator files I just re-installed win7 and fsx on my sim pc and had a problem with wideFS until I remembered that both Pcs must have the same workgroup name check this from control panel > system & security > system scroll down and you will see the workgroup name - viper Hi Pete, I have done everything you said to do and TopCat will not connect with the main machine or Plan-G,...... Simmconect will not connect nor will WideFS,.....It is not finding the main machine.......it is not finding the server.........This teredo thing on the main machine has something to do with this..how do you turn this thing back on...???...its stopping the connection between the two computers........This is killing me.Grrrrrrrrrrrr........ Kind Regards Brian. yakdownpete Hi Brian what a bummer, Ok, teredo is a network /internet protocol Ipv6 that is usually dormant under windows 7 and windows 8 and usually give no problems Option1 - lets see if the device has a valid driver and is working - follow this control panel > system & security > system select - device manager on the menu select - view check - show hidden devices expand network adapters teredo tunnelling device should be listed if it has a little yellow square it has no valid driver (right click on it and select properties) does it say device is not working select driver if no driver is shown you need to select - update driver then search automatically if it updates and looks the same as the other devices it should now working correctly - but do a reboot to let windows save the change. Option 2 - is dependant on what happens with option 1 - if the device is working and you still have a problem connecting follow this control panel > network & internet > network and sharing > select change adapter settings right click on the adapter shown and select properties and uncheck the IPv6 box Option 3 - if this does not work I disabled the teredo device on my sim Pc by selecting the device right click and choose disable My network PC does not have this device and every programme still connects OK over the network with this disabled viper Hi Pete, Got rid of Teredo............Now,.....Windows is telling me to make sure that the device IE:-PilotPc allows incoming connections for file and printer sharing....how do I do that......... Kind Regards Brian. PS:-.......You are a STAR.......... yakdownpete Ok this is pretty straightforward do this on both PCs go to control panel > network & internet > network and sharing center select - change advanced sharing options and make sure the following are checked turn on network discovery turn on file and printer sharing scroll down to homegroup connections and ensure allow windows to manage homegroup connections is checked try this to see if all connects - if not you need to do a bit more go back to network and sharing and select Homegroup and check every box under share libraries and printers this creates a homegroup when it creates a password accept it then Ok it - then select change the password - and make it something simple as you will repeat on the other PC but on second PC this time you should have an invite to join the homegroup - go with it and input the homegroup password you typed yourself. good luck - my fingers are crossed. viper Hi Pete, I am so lost in all this ........my wife hates me... not true........ but I have to get it working....leave it till the new year .................................Thank you for all your help ........Have a great Christmas & New year..........You are a star.......* yakdownpete Ok Brian You have had a mountain of issues to climb especially delving into the ugly side of computer setup, I recall when I first setup a networked sim it took me an age as I had to learn what things do and how they work, I swear I have more grey hair as a result. I totally understand where you are at, taking a break can really help as it is easy to get overwhelmed. Best wishes and I look forward to helping you crack this in the new year when you feel recharged. viper Hi Pete, Me to..........Thank`s......... viper Hi Pete, Happy New year to you.........I am happy to report that my network is up and running... I think.........FSUIPC is working with TopCat...Both computors are talking to each other..............Now the bad news......Simconnect still refuses to connect with Plan-G and I have tried every thing I know to get it to connect but it still evades me.......I will try and get all log files together and the ini, xml, cfg files...... + the FSUIPC logs and get back to you..........Any comment is accepted. Kind Regards Brian. yakdownpete Hi Brian , happy new year to you too I reckon to get simconnect sorted I think it would be a good idea to setup the simconnect log file On your main PC 1. create a new empty folder called logger under c: drive (c:\logger) 2. create a text file using notepad 3 Copy and paste this text into the file [simConnect] level=verbose console=0 RedirectStdOutToConsole=0 outputDebugString=1 file=c:\logger\simconnect%03u.log file_next_index=9 file_max_index=9 4. call it - simconnect.ini and save it in the folder c:\users\%username%\documents\Flight Simulator X Files (it's where your fsx save flights are stored) run FSX - 1 minute is more than enough close FSX as normal and wait for everything to close, then goto file explorer and look in the folder c:\logger In it should be a file called - simconnect000.log ( each time you run FSX a new log file (max9) will be created if you get to 9 just delete the old ones This is the content of the first few lines - it is all you need [simconnect working] 0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61259.0 0.01063 Server: Scope=global, Protocol=IPv4, Address=192.168.0.2, Port=500, MaxClients=64The highlighted text means your simconnect.xml file is coded correctly as a valid xml file, the extra lines below this indicate what add-on DLLs are activated by FSX[simconnect failed - I disabled my fsx simconnect.xml file] 0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61259.0 0.00175 Server: Scope=local, Protocol=Pipe, Name=\\.\pipe\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SimConnect, MaxClients=64 check the versions of simconnect on your laptop under control panel > programs there should be Microsoft flight simulator simconnect client v10.0.61259.0 which is for FSX SP2 \Acceleration To check simconnect is linking up on the client (laptop) we need to install the FSX sdk on your laptop - to do this you need FSX disk1 and the Acceleration disk Put disk1 in your laptop and navigate to the folder SDK and run the setup.exe file. the default location is Ok once done put in your acceleration disk and navigate again to the SDK folder and run the setup.exe Ok the file to test simconnect is in the location C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\Samples\AI Traffic Run FSX it must be active , then run the file A1 traffic.exe by double clicking on it. If simconnect is connecting to the client a windows dialog box will appear on the laptop and the text will say Connected to Flight Simulator! Received:2 (other some other number) If the dialog box just opens with nothing the link via simconnect is not working. probably enough for you try for now, but post again when convenient with the results viper Hi Pete, I have done that ..there is nothing in the logger folder....You say create a new empty folder called logger under c: drive (c:\logger.....I don`t under stand. What I have done is.......Made a new folder called it logger and put that in the c Drive.........then copyied the simconnect.ini text into a text file........and named it simconnect.ini....... and put that where you said......and run FSX..........nothing in the logger folder ..........? Sorry, I must be thick.... Brian. yakdownpete hi You got the instruction ok and the folder is in the right place. I had to get you to make a folder cos when I tried the default location on my main sim pc which is just c:/ it refused to create a log file, hence the new folder request , but my sincere apologies, I'm an idiot, in line 7 the text file next index I should have changed it to = 0 to reset the log count, as it stands the max log count is preventing a new log from being created. I was testing this and forgot to reset it. the SDK install is the real test for a simconnect over a network viper Hi Pete, Nothing in the logger folder.............and the test on the laptop with the SDK samples..AI Traffic just opens and shuts and that`s it...... Brian. yakdownpete Ok the fact that the SDK test is blank is definitive - simconnect is not connecting to the laptop over the network just did a test - for simconnect to work you need the file simconnect.cfg in the documents folder of your laptop. I forget to disable it on my network pc when previously testing and when I disabled it the A1 traffic test failed. Enabled it and the test passed. The cfg file is for the laptop and goes in the location C:\Users\%username%\Documents If you want to just create one - use notepad and save the file as simconnect.cfg and use save as type All Files ( ) then add this text [simConnect] Protocol=IPv4 Address=192.168.0.2 Port=500 MaxReceiveSize=8192 DisableNagle=1 alter the line Address= in the cfg file to show your IP address for the main pc I honestly don't know how I missed it. Fingers crossed this is the last piece of the jigsaw -I have a good feeling about this!! I also added 3 files to dropbox that I know are good for safety- just click to download and by all means check them through your antivirus software - I want you to 100% confident they are safe. simconnect.xml simconnect.ini simconnect.cfg do the CFG file first and hold the other files in reserve For info: In the xml doc the only change needed is to the IP address The ini file I have changed the location for the log file to simply C:\ This means the log files will appear directly in the c:\drive - no other folder is required and I took away the limit to number of log files https://www.dropbox.com/s/51pymnaif9g4d93/SimConnect.cfg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/mi6p9ef6rlo86qr/SimConnect.ini?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/k85ofijq04iz4s0/SimConnect.xml?dl=0 as before save the xml on main pc location C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX save the ini file in the location C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files If this works then going forward any software you add to the laptop that uses simconnect should have a copy of the cfg file added to it's root install folder -still keeping the one in the documents folder. viper Hi Pete, The state of play at the moment is........Simconnect has connected with Plan-G Topcat works......WideFs works.........FSUIPC states that it has connected .......Now the bad news.......AI Traffic test on the LapTop still does not...it opens and closes as before.....and the test on the main machine I carn`t find the log file which tells me simconnect is coded correctly......... Brian. viper Hi Pete, Just installed ASN onto my LapTop and it works................I think we have done it mate.... Just the above that doesn`t work........I still carn`t find these test logs it keeps making them up to 5 now but where are they..? Kind Regards Brian. yakdownpete Hi Brian I am over the moon (-: (-: - well done buddy - you have cracked it. ASN will only connect to your FSX pc if simconnect is working over the network In terms of the log files they don't exist, I don't know why, the counter will go up as it is not dependent on there being an actual file, a fact I discovered when researching it. If you want to know for sure I used the dropbox ini file just to check it works and it still does but you can try a different drive if your main Pc has more than one drive it worked for me in testing just change the location to anything you want but keep the file name SimConnect%03u.log change this line file=c:\SimConnect%03u.log for example if you have a drive named E E:\simlog\SimConnect%03u.log and make a folder called E:\simlog The sdk test may be failing because I have the following entries in my my dll.xml file in location C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX pretty sure they were added automatically when I first installed the acceleration pack in FSX Launch.Addon NameObject Placement Tool/Name DisabledTrue/Disabled ManualLoadFalse/ManualLoad Path..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll/Path /Launch.Addon Launch.Addon NameTraffic Toolbox/Name DisabledTrue/Disabled ManualLoadFalse/ManualLoad Path..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll/Path /Launch.Addon Launch.Addon NameVisual Effects Tool/Name DisabledTrue/Disabled ManualLoadFalse/ManualLoad Path..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll/Path /Launch.Addon If you want, you can check the file for this text but I don't think it is worth bothering about now - just enjoy the moment and your flying, believe me you deserve it for sticking with this. Boy am I happy,....lol viper Hi Pete, I am a very happy old person, it has been a long and frustrating time for me but with your help and dedication we have done it, I don`t no how to thank you enough................You are a STAR........... Kind Regards Brian Jennings. yakdownpete you are truly welcome Brian. I love Flight simming because it is open to all, age is no barrier. If I can aid others to enjoy their flying it's the icing on the cake for me. All the best Pete viper Hi Pete, I have installed Rex essential + overdrive HD on my LapTop but how does it connect with my main machine via Simconnect or WideFS ........What do I need to do to make this work..........and open FSX from REX. Kind Regards Brian. viper Pete ...I got the SDK test to work Brill..........just thought I would let you know...... Brian. yakdownpete Hi Brian That's great re the sdk test, there's not much I can teach you now. I confess I have never tried rex essentials over a network. However I did install it on my network pc to test it In the main REX config page -simulator folder location - I put the shared FSX root folder location So far I can confirm it uses simconnect. I disabled the simconnect.cfg on the network pc and it failed to inject weather re-instated it and the weather injected correctly not sure about the textures but it seems to be OK. I put a copy of the cfg in the root folder for rex as a precaution. Unfortunately it refuses to start FSX on main Pc and I get a message saying insufficient disk space - I ignored it and just started FSX normally myself and then clicked on REX - load weather - and bingo weather update appears in sim with clouds/fog etc. The main issue to run a program such as FSX/REX from one Pc on another network Pc (i.e remotely) is a real bugger. I will take a look at it. hold off re-installing REX on main Pc. viper Hi Pete, I am sure you can teach me a lot Haha........and thank`s for getting back to me..I look forward to getting this sorted and working. Brian. yakdownpete Hi again Ok - this can be done (-: (-: follow these steps 1. on the laptop, basically do what you did for your fsx folders and share the REX install folder with your main sim PC 2. on your main sim pc navigate using windows explorer to the REX folder on the laptop & right mouseclick on the file Rex.exe & select send to desktop create shortcut on desktop 3. right mouseclick on the shortcut on your main PC desktop & select > properties > compatibility tab set for all users / check the box - run as administrator - click on OK to exit 3. click on the shortcut - it should now run the REX interface - nothing will appear on your laptop 4. select the config mgr page once the weather data has downloaded > and choose browse > navigate to the FSX root folder on your main sim PC > click on it and then click on OK Rex should now inject textures and weather into your main sim PC FSX and run it from - Fly now - Note - textures take several minutes to install- this is normal regardless of rex on same pc or network You can minimize the Rex weather window when FSX is running by right mouseclicking on window border and choose minimize Phew !!.....lol - I tried this setup and it works fine for me. viper Hi Pete, I did everything you said and got to the Compatibility part, and could not set administrator privilege so had to do that from the icon it self..........Still not sure if it all worked because it will not start FSX..........? Brian. yakdownpete Hi Brian I have a dual boot PC with win 7 and win8 and two valid FSX installs - each OS in on a separate drive. The reason I mention this is because - for the purposes of this test - they are seen by each operating system as two entirely separate PCs I redid the setup under win 8 and win 7 and both worked immediately after setup. can you confirm - Does REX actually start on your main PC when you click on the icon ( the compatibility part is not that important -win 8.1 allowed it win7 doesn't -so ignore for now) When Rex starts - does it download the weather /airport data etc In this screen does your FSX root folder path appear correctly on your main PC https://www.dropbox.com/s/vl2v2qzma5iio6b/rexremote1.png?dl=0 check this on your laptop. shut down REX on main pc and open it on your laptop - does the config show your main sim PC FSX path Did a short vid to show what it looks like when working Best viewed in HD 1080p viper Hi Pete, I guess you know what I am going to say.......I do not understand this...... I confess I have never tried rex essentials over a network. However I did install it on my network pc to test it In the main REX config page -simulator folder location - I put the shared FSX root folder location...??? It did not work.......you are way above my head.......sorry............ Brian. yakdownpete hi Brian looking back i forgot you have ASN - I assume rex essentials is for textures only In order to open FSX automatically. the REX essentials program has to be ---opened --- by the same pc that has FSX installed. but Rex doesn't have to be installed on that pc It wouldn't accept a shared path when I initially tried it. on your laptop go into rex essentials and in the config box type the actual path to fsx on your main pc. mine is simply C:/FSX. thats all you need to do It's the shortcut on your main pc that is pointing to the rex executable file on your laptop. REX is being opened remotely by your main pc when you click on the shortcut you have full access to all the features of the ReX application you can install textures and click on -- Fly now -- REX should now start FSX quite happily. hope this helps viper Hi Pete, Just a short message to tell you that everything is now working, and to thank you again for all the help... Kind Regards Brian. nhlking89 Hi Pete, I have a little problem. Is SimConnect not working with win8. I tried workgroup on each everythine and is not connecting to my FSX pc with win7. And i have only 3 folder in my documents in win8. Best Regrads Marcel viper Marcel, I have the same set up as you FSX pc win7 and a laptop running win8.1 simconnect runs ok.........follow the instructions that are above and it will work....... Needs some work though it took me 4 months to get mine working.......good luck. Brian. nhlking89 So now my next Problem, the Connection ist running between the FSX and ASN. But i get the error message from ASN, ASN cannot control ambient weather parameters correctly, thus it cannot function properly at this point and will shut down. Please make sure you have proper rights/ownership of the Programm Files(x86) folder an have trusted/excluded ASN from your security software, as well as the simulator's as_SRV folder and included.dll modules.Networked setups also need port 445 opened. Have someone a idea on this? Best Regrads Marcel yakdownpete Hi That particular error usually appears when the ASconnect for fsx installer has not been installed correctly or is the wrong version based on which ASN version is installed on your FSX Pc (if using a networked setup ) The correct version is created by your ASN install therefore you will find it in the ASN install folder on your network/second PC I would run/re-run the asconnect.exe file on the FSX pc but right mouseclick /select run as administrator to re-install it correctly YKDP
