FSX Problems, Unstiblity and Performance Issues.

Recommended Posts

If you updated to Window 10 in the past 30 days you should still be able to roll it back to your previous operating system.

The other option is to back up your FSX.cfg then delete it to allow FSX to build a fresh version, then add back in any of your favourite tweaks.

If the problem persists I would recommend you get advice from a PC specialise to at least get your machine stable.

Three suggestions...

1) When someone asks a question here, please answer it; e.g.  we still don't know if you have applied Kosta's suggestions or not.  Don't make US dig through his list and your cfg file to find out.

2) Give some specifics.  Bruce asks what logs you've checked and you've ignored it.  At least two others have suggested letting FSX.cfg rebuild itself but we still don't know if you have tried that or not.

3) Try putting a period at the end of your sentences, turn on your spell checker and stop with the random capitalization - it just makes your posts more difficult to read and understand.

We're all here trying to help you.  Help us do that.  We get it about the symptoms you're seeing.  How about some specifics about what we've asked about?

If your processor is a quad core with hyper threading like mine use an AffinityMask setting of 254 or 255 and try that.

Also try disabling hyper threading in the BIOS as some people found this helped.

I would also delete the config file - let it be rebuilt from scratch and only add highmemfix and affinity mask settings.

Turn the sliders down in scenery and see if it helps - if so then bump it up one at a time until it becomes unstable.

Get hold of an app called 'RealTemps' run it minimised while playing fsx and if it crashes check the max recorded temps of the cores. Might be cpu overheating.

Plenty to try and investigate - good luck mate.

I have Checked the application error logs as soon as fsx crashes through the event viewer.

i have reset my fsx.cfg several times more then i should.  i have 30 different FSX.cfg files that didn't work well.

my hyper threading is on but i dont know how disable it.

i have read through Kosta's guide several times and have applied some of his knowledge to my fsx.cfg and it sill unstable. Personally i think Microsoft should get there stuff together and fix windows 10's glaring issues.

i dont know if i can roll back the 1511 update with out messing up my OS plus i dont exactly know what the update is the 1511 update.

i hope this provides a more clearer understanding ill post my fsx settings in a bit.

One thing you said Bryan that really stands out is that all these problems came about after the update to win10. If you do not have FSX Acceleration installed something might have happened with the SP1&2 installation or any of the other possible things that might have gone wrong with the change over to a new OS. I don't think there is one magical answer we can give you in this case.

Although it give one chills to think about reinstalling FSX and everything that goes with it that might be your only choice given that things went downhill with the OS changeover, obviously something got corrupted. You can even try a repair first although that does not always work.

No You've missundertood my PC was Win10 from the start.

I have FSX Gold Edition that has Acceleration included.

my computer had updated to Windows 10 1511 that major 1511 update Made everything unstable But I can't uninstall it I don't think. I know I am going in circles here and I am trying my best to explain what's going on.

You disable hyper threading in the bios - its quite advanced and differs depending on your motherboard unfortunately so cannot provide a guide.

Did you try the update to affinity mask? That will make it use all cores.

Ok, my fault. I don't know how it is in win10 but in win7 you can find all your past updates in the Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features/ Installed updates. If you go down the list you might be able to find that offending update and delete it.

The thing is that I may not be able to because I had the initial realse of windows 10 and it upgraded to Win10 home 1511.

Wasn't there a problem with some win 10 users after the 1511 update? See if you can use an earlier restore point and redownload the fixed update?

Either way I think you might need to reinstall FSX.

I think you are fast approaching, if not already past the point, of reformatting your HDD, reinstalling Win 10 (disabling updates in the process) and reinstalling FSX from the beginning.

Like you said, you are "...going in circles here...".

This might seem a blunt and brutal solution, but you know what.....it often works.

Sadly disabling updates in win10 Home is no easy task. Security updated can't be disabled at all, and driver updates requires some "hacking" to disable. Unless one permanently disconnects the computer from the Internet that is...

As for FSX on Windows 10, I have no issues with that combination. Although I did build my new PC after the 1115 update, so I assume I had that applied prior to installing FSX, so the update couldn't mess anything up.
