FLIGHT ANGELS 2016 is a unique aviation event providing an incredible opportunity for the world to come together to experience some extraordinary online flying opportunities whilst helping some wonderful charities. All this from the comfort of your own home as you get involved in the event via our video live streams or Microsoft Flight Simulator!

If you have Microsoft FSX software (including STEAM versions) installed on your computer, you can join the events team as they fly around the world in 23 one-hour legs, using a variety of different aircraft to take off from and land in a huge array of iconic locations. Or you can fly yourself or with friends in any one of our event legs at any time. Each session, which lasts 2 hours, costs only $5, and multiple sessions can be purchased.

Hmm.. I do wonder what kind of multiplayer interface they will be using, considering it will support both boxed and Steam edition of FSX...

Will they go the VATSIM route, or something completely different...

Might look into flying the Stockholm-Helsinki flight...

Hey Stu,

Actually both of the above, anyone with VATSIM can fly one of the flights with them. They are very kindly fully involved and will be providing ATC and all sorts of support. For those of you who don't fly VATSIM, we will also be simultaneously providing multiplayer servers that automatically reroute both boxed and Steam FSX and P3D (all versions) to that server. They will be running in parallel.

Really excited that you are looking to fly the Helsinki leg, I will be taking time off from organising to fly that one too, as it is one of my favourite flights in the sim!

See you there and thank you for your support!

Jane

Thanks for the answer Jane,

Since I'm not at all up and running on VATSIM and proper procedural flying (I blame the rest of Mutleys Crew for the last bit) the second option sound tempting.

As I live but a 10 minute drive from Arlanda any event out of there is tempting to join in, and if it's for a good cause all the better.

Kind regards

Micke

Can I also take the chance to use this forum to mention some of our star guests.

Colonel Doug Champagne, who has a disabled daughter, is supporting the event. Most of you will already know Colonel Champagne. Not only is he the USA's most decorated fighter pilot (and has flown in every conflict the USAF has participated in since the end of the 1980s!) he was also the pilot who was scrambled to lead the squadron of interceptors on 9/11 as news came in of the Twin Towers attack. The Colonel will be talking to us at the event in live Q and A and not only that will be running a special event where he gives a live cockpit presentation from an F-16 sim! It is just incredible to have arguably the world's most famous living fighter pilot at the event. Come and meet him!

A quick bio on Doug (incidentally, for an appropriate donation we can also arrange one on one skypes with Doug and even Dinner With Doug events! how amazing is that!)

Doug has flown both the A-10 Warthog and F-16 in 523 combat sorties.

Col Champagne flew on the first assault wave in the 1991 Iraq War, on the opening night over Baghdad and continued throughout the campaign.

He led the 66 aircraft assault group that assaulted the Iraqi Armour on the "highway of death" between Kuwait and Iraq and became an enduring image of the Iraq War

He flew sorties throughout the first Iraq War.

On 9/11 Colonel Champagne and his F-16 squadron were airborne as the towers were hit. His squadron were immediately tasked to defend American cities and his aircraft was detailed to intervene with Flight 93. Doug flew the first ever live combat air patrols over the continental United States that day and for some weeks afterwards. He will discuss 9/11 including flying after flight 93, patrols over Chicago, Detroit and New York. He will discuss AirForce 1 escort etc etc. Colonel Champagne was tasked with coordinating and flying CAP's across the USA.

At the end of 2001 the Colonel relocated to Afghanistan and took part throughout the campaign, flying out of Kandahar both on strike and special forces support missions.

In 2003 Doug relocated back to Iraq and was tasked with patrolling the no fly zone over the country. As war loomed, he was tasked with taking out SAM sites to clear the way for allied airpower. He flew throughout the campaign.

The Colonel also ended up returning to Iraq to fly in close air support formation for special forces in the Battle of Fallujah, flying an A-10 at low level supporting US Special forces against ground targets.

He has flown many recent missions too, some of them he can't even tell you about!

He will be fully available on the weekend of 17th September, both on the Saturday and Sunday for the aviation charity event and a $5 donation gets you in to the youtube channel, to speak to him live via live chat and also to view his demo flights in both the F-16 and A-10, with live commentary and again answering questions live!

I would like to fly both Rotterdam legs in a Fokker F27-300. Born and raised in Rotterdam so can't resist especially for a good cause, but Berlin to Rotterdam is at 2100 CEST and Rotterdam to Farnborough is at 2200 CEST. It just can't be done. Even an A320 can just make it in an hour (56 minutes according to PFPX) IF there are no headwinds.

So I guess I'll have to choose - decisions, decisions...

hey Kaspar, some good news for you! You can actually fly both legs if you wish. When you finish one, just drop right on over to flying the next leg on the server. We are allowing overlap on each of the flights, so it is not a problem. With the amount of people flying, not everyone is going to be able to get airborne at the top of the hour, so there will be a steady stream of people taking off. We are aware of that and have catered for it and allowed people to fly legs back to back. It will all work seamlessly :)

hope that helps. I am always here for any questions

Jane
