I think I know what went wrong, I hadn't factored in the 35 knot headwind that meant groundspeed was a lot less than IAS. I was only about 10 miles from my destination when the engine quit.

Been there Alan.:D A good reason to start doing halfway point calculations whenever flying over water and something I have started doing due to my own sim brush with death. :pilotic::faint:

The problem for me is inadvertent tailwinds.
