Only because I was intrigued by the VRS Superbug being released for P3Dv4, I started delving into the murky world (or ocean) of sim carrier ops.

I found a few wonderful pieces of art vis a vis carriers...

(Team SDB are I'm told expecting an update to the 32 bit RFN Tacan gauge used for some advanced carrier features to a 64bit version shortly)

Anyone here done any carrier ops?

Im surprised no-one else has tried carrier based flying.

I got the VRS F18 superbug yesterday and am considering signing myself up for an avionics course - its seriously impressive.  Only had one go at putting her down on a carrier deck so far, its tough :)

Imagine how the RW pilots feel when the deck is heaving in mean seas.:D The angle of the landing strip versus the direction of the ship always gets me, still good fun in a white knuckle kind of way. Have fun with the new "Superbug".:)

Hi Kevin.

Carrier ops is high on my agenda as something to learn however I just don't have time at the moment :(

Also most of the carriers I have found seem to be very poorly detailed and /or not Royal Navy. The two packages you point out look brilliant! I just might have to forgo my RAF only rule and get posted to the USN on detachment.

That was my exact same thought process until I researched it a little.  Worth mentioning the comment below that SWS posted on youtube as well.  I am finding the VRS Superbug VERY up to date, detailed and worth looking at.  The Aerosoft F14 extended has me in a weird do I like it or not kind of holding pattern?  The a/c feels quite a relic in the cockpit (well it is I suppose!) not at all what I was expecting....   Either way, there looks to be coming soon a new realism to carrier flights :) K

Our plan is to produce AI air wing packages for every carrier. So if you want to fly on today's Nimitz, you can get the relevant AI Airwing. If you want WWII, a relevant package will be produced. If you want to use the default F-35, you it will need to be configured it but you can use it as well.

I always enjoyed the Carrier missions in FSX, it would be nice to see the carriers move up and down with the waves to add a bit more white knuckle experience.:yikes:

Is something like this what you're looking for? ;)

Looks like it rolls a bit much still but that is still quite an improvement, thanks for the look Kevin.:)

I have seen videos of the deck pitching(literally heaving) what looked like 10-20 feet while aircraft were landing, it was enough that if you didn't time it right you would get waved away or hit the stern full on.  With the utmost respect I salute all our pilots for the dangerous work they do on a daily basis.:salute:

I was in the Bay of Biscay on a ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth in a force 10 when I was a kid. All I remember was looking out of the restaurant window which faced the bow and seeing sea, sky, sea, sky etc. It wasn't for long, the view quickly changed to the inside of a stout paper bag. :(
