Mission Programing

Recommended Posts

Jim Keir's FSXMissionEdditor (FSXME) is probably the best introduction to Mission building. Get it here:

http://secure.simmarket.com/fsaddon-fsx-mission-editor.phtml

There is a trial version.

There is a support Forum at FSAddon.com, but most developers go here:

Brett and I can answer some of your queries - fire away!

Cheers - Dai.

Wyatt - are you planning to develop an alternative to the Mission Engine embedded in FSX?

As you probably know, FSX Missions are coded in XML. This XML is interpreted at run-time by the FSX Mission 'de-coder'. App's like Jim Keir's FSX Mission Editor make developing Missions easier - its block-building approach produces the desired XML without the user having to 'program' in the XML code itself.

You can, of course, develop your own app in Visual C++, which would possibly enable you to do a similar 'interpretation' of Mission logic. App's loke FSUIPC, InstantScenery, so forth, are examples of this approach.

M.S. no longer supports ESP (don't know what this stands for!), which was a commercially available visual simulation platform very similar to the flight sim app's such as FS9/ FSX, etc. M.S. sold the rights for ESP to Lockheed-Martin, who now offer it, under license as Prepar3D (P3D). This has a Mission Engine, but I'm not sure if this is XML based like FSX.

There - the world's your oyster - if you're a VIsual C++ guru, that is. :thum:

Cheers - Dai.
