It looks like I may have finally found a challenging one.  :D

 

So the next hint: it was an allied aircraft and from what was probably an obscure manufacturer.

 

But it's not the Twin P-40 though Kieran.

Well, it lasted about 24 hrs.  Yes, Brett, it is the multi role CA-11 'Woomer' bomber designed and built by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC).  Whilst a production order was placed, it never entered production.

 

One interesting design feature was the two remote controlled twin machine gun barbettes mounted at the rear of the engine nacelles.  These can be clearly seen in the picture below.

I couldn't figure out what those machine guns were. It took reading the description to figure it out. :huh:

:thumbup: La-7 it is Alan, well done. You know your aircraft. There was a distinct difference in the engine cowl. The La-5 was a bit fatter and the La-7 was straighter from front to back.
