brett 2,225
I served on a few airbases and for some reason these aircraft always drew my attention more than the others. No matter where I stood they always seemed to be looking at me.
allardjd 1,853
I saw a lot of these during my service too, Brett. Most were on approach to Norfolk Naval Station, coming over the piers, or approaching USS America while the destroyer I was on was plane-guarding for them. Our usual position was about a mile directly behind them. We never had to fish anyone out of the drink while I was there. John

That would make for a very interesting refueling procedure.

allardjd 1,853
Andrew won the A6 one so he's got the ball. I expect we'll see a really hard one from him sometime this evening. John
Andrew Godden 923
To kick it off for 2018 and following John's suggestion of only providing portions of the aircraft from which to try and identify it.

allardjd 1,853
But can it lay an egg? I've seen photos of that one before but don't know what it is or where it's based. Such poor taste in flying objects is more commonly seen in the hot air balloon genre, though there are exceptions like this one. John 1
Captain Coffee 2,030
I'll bite, it's known as the Aero'Polo IIRC. It looks like it is a custom one of a kind homebuilt around the Waterman Aeromobile model, but only very loosely. I think I found the builder's Facebook page: Daniel Beltrame.
brett 2,225
I thought I saw that bird around somewhere, good job Matt.
Andrew Godden 923
Matt, I'll beg to differ on both the designer and aircraft name. I think you will find the designer was Ottone Baggio and the aircraft is the Baggio Il Gallo. Gallo being Italian for rooster, and the aircraft does the regular airshow circuit in Italy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baggio_Il_Gallo
Captain Coffee 2,030
I stand corrected, and Andrew takes the win.
dodgy-alan 1,587
That's the one Andrew. proof if proof were needed that ugly planes can fly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvgE8w-ucmw
allardjd 1,853
Yep, and since it's a rooster, it shouldn't be able to lay an egg. John
