mutley 4,497
After seeing the latest Russ White creation first-hand in the UK a week ago, I have to say that it pretty well blew the socks off everyone in the room. Not only has Russ done the impossible and introduced an incredible ground imagery at 2cm/pixel, but he has constructed his interpretation of CZST Stewart completely by hand, using synthetic hand-crafted textures. Not only will you see the most detailed ground imagery even shown in a simulator, but unique features like sharp shadows on buildings and trees and insanely detailed ground clutter and the interior of a hangar complete with moody shadows and lighting effects. Never before has any airport scenery breathed so much character and rustic grit. You could be forgiven these were scenes from Call of Duty 5, but guys - it's FSX/P3D and yours to experience yourself this month! Announcement here Product page here
ddavid 149
Is there a graveyard? Somewhere for the zombies people... Foregive me for being somewhat cynical, but where is this going? I love scenery, as you know, but I can't see how this fits in with virtual flight... Shoot me down, if you want to! Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,497
Gotcha! Don't you want to see those little deposits worms make when burrowing right there beside the taxiway? I think people will always marvel at what detail can be achieved, it adds nothing to the flying I agree.

I believe Orbx have it spot on - wen u buy yourself a new plane addon that comes with a 500 page manual this is the airport you want to be at when trying to figure out what switch to flick next Seriously tho I agree it does seem a waste and adds nothing to the flying. Is this the same Stewart airport that has nothing around for miles and miles? I used to fly out of there and never really spotted anything near by. Textures look great and will be interesting to see! britfrog 180
i really respect how orbyx/ftx have changed the face of airport textures, they are amazing no other word for it, however having spent some 150£ on their software this winter to find this month i could buy it for 40% less and save 60£, well they can take a dirty great jump. as for their decision to no longer make large airports like brisbane or melbourne well time will tell if that was the right decision, i am willing to bet before xmas this year they go back on that decision as they have on every other one, Who wants a small impecably designed airfield that is an hours flying time from the nearest large airport in Canada of all places, i dont! now if they had chosen some reasonably important airfield somewhere in the real world where people frequent a lot i would be the first in the queue but they are spreading themselves too thin. new zealand as beautifully rendered as it is , in reality is only interesting to fly to its major airfields by jet from abroad, if you fly inside NZ in a vfr a/c the experience which at first seems amazing palls when you have to man handle an a/c around for long distances between airfields, Similarly Canada, if they created more airfields in a group like those in PNW which are not too far apart then cool, that works but when you have to drone on for an interminable period just to get to the next highly rendered airfield i would prefer 6 hours of crossing the atlantic, at least i can get up and visit the john. there is no doubt that ftx/orbyx are an important presence and the quality of their work is beyond criticism the same, sadly, cannot be said for the management or the person who controls what direction they take. MrBenevolent 0
It does seem an oddly irrelevant path down which to seek further levels of fidelity as far as FSX is concerned! There must be a market for it, else they wouldn't do it, but I can't say I will be inspired to buy this. All I want from Orbx is the NZNI, so I can finally fly between the two and over to Oz with seamless scenery and then to see what they come up with for the UK.
pacinka 0
All I can say is I love this! I'm a fan of their ultra-detailed airports, especially ones like this. Plus, the location is great. We need more Canadian airports (sorry guys, but I've had enough of the Australian and American ones). Now why don't I have PFJ? (side thought: So this is where their funny banner was from!) I have heard this before from others and don't quite understand the anger. I personally had eagerly awaited a sale from ORBX to finally get some of their scenery. If you want it now(when it is first released) and can't wait, you pay top dollar. Sooner or later things go on sale, be it for holidays or clearence or even for a company to see if there are more customers out there that are willing to buy their product but don't feel the original pricing is worth it. They do need to return to the original price so as not to devalue their product after the sale. This will go back and forth untill demand has run its course for whatever reason. Then it's bargin basement time. This goes on all the time with pretty much all companies and products from cars to shampoo. I couldn't count on my fingers(and toes) the amount of times I have gotten the short end of the stick on purchases from my home to clothes and yes even sim aircraft. I can't believe this has never happened to you before. So why the surprise and outrage with ORBX? Nothing personal, just curious.
PanzerFodder 0
I just saw that they have put a video out now, looks very nice too . Cheer's...Graham...
pacinka 0
Next thing we need is for the aircraft to make tracks in that beautiful dirt..........Did I just call dirt beautiful?
brett 2,314
That is amazing detail and I wouldn't mind flying out of that airport so I can see the attraction to high detail scenery. Great video but toward the end all I could picture is the sound of the Maule's ski's dragging along the ground. Gear up....check?
Sabre 28
I must admit I'm a huge Orbx fan but with my current rig I still have to turn off some of the features to get decent frame rates and avoid stuttering so if 2cm is the future it could be a piece of very expensive airport scenery if I have to buy a new machine to run it :D Have to say though it looks absolutely brilliant and I'll still almost certainly buy it Off to sweet talk the wife about a significant purchase
