Want to stop drunk drivers from killing sober drivers, ban sober drivers from driving, after all isn't that how gun control works.

The ability to call up the ATC and declare an emergency, so that procedures swing into action to get you down safely etc and send out the fire trucks when you do so! Something you cannot do with FSX.

Who knew? Wellingtons were used as minesweepers. Interesting article with some photos. In one case a Wellington, which had a famously strong structure, survived a 10 g acceleration from a mine detonated while flying below the 35' safety minimum and was determined upon subsequent inspection to be undamaged. https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2019/06/17/how-fords-flathead-v-8-helped-save-lives-as-an-aerial-minesweeper-during-world-war-ii/ John

Auntie Ju ought to have been able to set off magnetic mines all by herself, probably from an altitude of 500', without needing all that magnetic crap. It's not like she needed more drag or anything to make her slower or uglier. John

Kelly’s Heroes: Lockheed’s five finest airplanes
  6. 1 point
Not sure I'd have included the P-80 and the F-104, but the C-130 should certainly be in a list of Lockheed's finest. It doesn't qualify as one of Kelley's Heroes, however, since he wasn't the designer and wasn't associated with it. He once wrote a letter to the President of Lockheed virtually begging him not to produce the C-130 because he feared it would bankrupt the company. Kelley was a smart guy, but like everyone else. he wasn't incapable of being wrong. By the way, saw a F-104 in flight this week, probably out of the warbird museum at Titusville FL (KTIX), near where we were. John

I first became aware of this tonight in an e-mail from Fly Away Simulation, linking to this... https://flyawaysimulation.com/news/4953/ (Checking.... nope, it's not April 1st and POTUS hasn't tweeted that it's Fake News.) I haven't followed any of the links contained in that page yet but it appears to be a true MS release. Obviously I didn't expect to see MS jump back in but I welcome the news. It is to be hoped that they learned a thing or three after getting their fingers burned on F-Lite, a.k.a. MS Flight and perhaps this will be a serious entry. Maybe it will be a lease-back of P3D Based on MS history with release dates, I wouldn't hang my hat on the 2020 release target, but it seems certain that they at least do intend to get back in the game. Just when you think you've seen it all... John

Hi Johan, there's been a lot written about this on the internet as no doubt you have seen. There doesn't seem to be a cure all solution but in my experience when the potentiometer gets dust or dirt inside they can go spiky. These items are not really serviceable other than using some switch cleaner to lubricate the contacts. Have a look on YouTube.

Well, they've done one thing right already. Josh Howard, the Baghdad Bob of the MS Flight team, is no longer with them. John

I'd say they already lack serious credibility issues. You don't shit in the face of a customer base and loyal community, a loyal community of diehards that has been with them and supported them for up to 30 years and then expect all will be normal, as if nothing happened. I'd like to see MS produce the next generation flight sim, but they had better pull a very big rabbit out of that proverbial hat.

No doubt everyone has some great points and even things I would like to see but I think I'll take the wait add see attitude for stress free living. One thing I do know is if they don't deliver this time no one will believe them again.

I couldn't agree more, John. As Joe knows, I have an elephant's memory, and having read that latest release gives me more than just a touch of deja vu. Now, the cynic in me says they are using the exact same modis operandi as last time and the press release has just been copied from an early MS Flight press release from a few years back, with a change to the dates, names, and a few sentences in order to protect the guilty. By the way, I have this great elixir that cures all illnesses, including baldness, old age, and death.....want to buy a bottle!!! I only have a dozen bottles left. History is a great teacher! A statement that is true even for our hobby. Ever since consoles were first released, the world of consoles versus PCs have always been world's apart. Notwithstanding this, some products have continued to have a cross platform release because PCs are still a good platform for games. This is not to say that some fantastic "games" aren't produced for consoles.....but there is the point of historically accepted differentiation. Consoles are for "gamers", PCs are for "simmers"! Some simulators have successfully transitioned to consoles. Driving and car racing simulators, specifically, where input and interaction is simply via a steering wheel and pedals, peripherals which have been produced for consoles. However, any true flight simulator product, and I am including simulators beyond the standard flight sims of P3D, FSX, and X-Plane, often require extensive interaction with peripheral devices that only a fully functional cockpit with "6 degrees of freedom" could replicate. The DCS combat flight simulator is one that particularly comes to mind, and even in the case of DCS, a fully functional cockpit with "6 degrees of freedom" still does not fully replace the need for a keyboard as the optimum method of input for certain functionality. So, I'm with the naysayers. As long as this is developed for a console platform, even in tandem with a PC platform, this is most likely going to be nothing more than a "game". Cheers Andrew

This is a repaint I did from a request I had, turned out really nice. I liked the fact it had camo on the top and sky blue underneath, pure stealth

Hi All, So, a short while ago, in the real world, a whole load of C-47's were flown to and from Duxford to Normandy - this was regarding the 75th commemoration of D-Day. You can find more information in the link below. https://www.daksovernormandy.com/gallery/ Poeple from the A2A Simulations forum held the same flight plan in multiplayer within the sim - as my grandad was in the parachute regiment, I felt I needed to be part of this. I did get more shots, but here are two of me being part of the multiplayer event, there were more people behind me too, so quite a good turn out. Please excuse the liveries in the images, I could not get the JoinFS Model Substitution to work in time of the flight - also, thanks Manfred Jahn for a superb FREE C-47...

HARLEY DAVIDSON SPEAKS TO "DECLINING BIKE SALES" Apparently the Baby-Boomers all have motorcycles. Generation X is only buying a few, and the next generation isn't buying any at all. A recent study was done to find out why Millennial's don't ride motorcycles: 1. Pants won't pull up far enough for them to straddle the seat. 2. Can't get their phone to their ear with a helmet on. 3. Can't use 2 hands to eat while driving. 4. They don't get a trophy and a recognition plaque just for buying one. 5. Don't have enough muscle to hold the bike up when stopped. 6. Might have a bug hit them in the face and then they would need emergency care. 7. Motorcycles don't have air conditioning. 8. They can't afford one because they spent 10 years in college trying to get a degree in Humanities, Social Studies or Gender Studies for which no jobs are available. 9. They are allergic to fresh air. 10. Their pajamas get caught on the exhaust pipes. 11. They might get their hands dirty checking the oil. 12. The handle bars have buttons and levers and cannot be controlled by touch-screen. 13. You have to shift manually and use something called a clutch. 14. It's too hard to take selfies while riding. 15. They don't come with training wheels like their bicycles did. 16. Motorcycles don't have power steering or power brakes. 17. Their nose ring interferes with the face shield. 18. They would have to use leg muscle to back up. 19. When they stop, a light breeze might blow exhaust in their face. 20. It could rain on them and expose them to non-soft water. 21. It might scare their therapy dog, and then the dog would need therapy. 22. Can't get the motorcycle down the basement stairs of their parent's home.
