  1. Could be, or a disgruntled passenger that purchased a ticket far in advance for a date beyond where their provisional license was valid for. By the timing of the events it looks like this happened a couple of hours prior to the news of a new permanent licens was published.
  2. Turns out it was me that had missed it while being knocked out with a nasty flu on Monday when it happened. But all I found was basically what your original link had said. Most likely the articles I found was the source The Daily Mail used.
  3. Strange... haven't seen anything about this in Swedish news sources. Shall see if I can find any more details locally. And not what NextJet needed. They were on a limited license to operate due to financial troubles up until this week when they got a new permanent operational license. Before that they would have needed to shut down operations in mid november, but were still selling tickets beyond that date. And I guess the name of the company confused the poor journalist tasked with writing aviation news, because a TurboProp Jet sounds like a very strange configuration!!!
  4. As some of you may know I changed employer a few months back after deciding I had grown tired of being a bean counter. As a thank you for 14 years of service I got a gift certificate that among other things could be cashed in for a "Try to fly on your own-Experience". Guess what, I decided to cash it in to go flying!! And last night it was finally time to go flying, and it was a blast even though the cockpit was a tad tight for a guy of my length... Sadly I was to caught up in the moment to even consider taking any photos whilst in the air, and to be honest I don't think I even could have fished my phone out of my pocket while strapped into my seat, but at least I can share the tale of the flight. After a day of worrying about the weather (in true April fashion in Sweden we had had a mix of warm sunshine and local showers of hail/snow/rain during the day at home) I arrived at Västerås Airport (ESOW) around 1830 Local time. I was greeted by the guy that would be my guide on the flight, and after a very brief chat about my previous flight experience we headed out to the plane. At this point I had no idea what I was going to fly but had assumed it would be a C172 or a smaller Piper. Turns out it was an Ultralight ATEC 122 Zephyr 2000C with an empty weight of just 265 kg powered by a 80 hp Rotak engine... Sleek looking thing ain't it! I shall have to find a model of it for FSX. The cockpit was undergoing some renovation, having the old steam gouges replaced with digital instruments. I was pleased as I prefer Glass Cockpits when flying in the sim. We had a brief look around the outside and then strapped ourselfs into the seats, with me on the left hand side. The preflight checklist was done in just a couple of minutes, and the engine fired right away. After listening to the non-exciting ATIS (tower had closed for the day) my guide released the parking brake and told me to taxi to the runway (He did offer my some pointers as to where we should be heading as well). Just a fraction of an inch of throttle was needed to get her rolling and after some initial issues with finding the brakes (no toe-brakes on this, just a handle on the stick to pull on) I managed to find my way from Parking G9 out to Apron 4 and onto Taxiway A heading south. A short taxi later we were holding short of runway 01 on Bravo, full flaps were set for takeoff and then we lined up for takeoff after reporting our intentions over the radio. . With full throttle the take-off roll was short, but man did it need a lot of rudder input to stay on the center line. Not sure, but I think we took off before passing the exit at Taxiway C. At 300 feet we retracted the flaps, turned to a heading of about 350 to avoid some clouds and climbed through some bumpy air up to 3.500 feet. As we climbed out we noted that the cloud we turned to stay clear of had started to form into the anvil shape of a Cumulonibus incus, but my guide didn't see it as an issue. After we leveled off I managed to trim her out and we continued north while discussing how to proceed. I got to do some slow sweeping turns and couple of 360-turns. The lasting impression of this was how sensitive the controls were compared to the Sim. On my first attempt at a turn I gave way to much rudder input becoming completely uncoordinated for a brief moment. Might have to tune down my dead zones on the controller settings a tad The real certified pilot then took over the controls to show the slow speed capabilities of the model. The specifications says the stall speed in clean configuration is 36 knots, but he got us down to 25-28 knots and it was still flying in a very stable manner, at least with an experienced pilot in control. With the demonstration done we started a circling descent and preformed 2 traffic patterns with touch and go's at a grass strip about 20 nm north of Västerås called Salanda (not present in FSX as far as I know). Most of this I managed on my own with just some minor support. My guide did however provide some control input to time the flare in a proper manner and called me out when I let the airspeed bleed of to much. With that out of the way we climbed back up to the calm air at 3.500 feet and headed back towards Västerås cruising at about 115 knots IAS. In contrast to the traffic patterns and approaches at Salanda the approach and landing into ESOW was done with no flaps to make sure we got in before other inbound traffic got in our way. Final was made with significant cross wind so I got some help with the controls to master that as well as with the timing of the flare. About and hour after we took off we parked in front of the hangar, turned everything off and climbed out of the aircraft.. After the experience I had a big smile on my face for the whole drive back home!

  6. Good review there Jess, I agree with everything you said!! One note on the price tag though.. it's $99 plus local VAT, so with a 25% VAT here in Sweden for me it cost about $124.
  7. I'm guessing that removing that file did the same thing as removing EGHA in the AEC-tool for Global Vectors. But I'm also guessing it will come back the next time you run the automatic detection in the AEC-tool... As for documentation to read up on this I think it's available in FTX Central, but I'm not at home so I can't confirm or give any more detailed instructions at the moment. (and I still haven't installed version 3, so it really wouldn't be much help even if I was at home). An other option is to dig around in the ORBX folder in your FSX-folder. All PDFs with documentation is in there somewhere. You can also take a look at the video below.. jump to about 5 minutes in... it is based on an earlier version than the current one, but the method is the same as far as I recall..

  11. Isn't there a setting in AH to disable those? Can't check now as I'm at work, but I'm pretty sure there is. Since they are generated from the AH client I doubt it's possible to disable them from within FSX. My guess is that they are generated via FSUIPC, so if it's not in AH perhaps there's a way to disable them in the FSUIPC settings.

    And ORBX Germany north was released late last night... Seems to be a popular release considering the slow speed I managed to get on my downloads (4 files of roughly 2 gigabytes each).
  17. Not an issue I've seen with my Saitek Trim Wheel... But I'm running with Saiteks drivers. It does seem to need to re-initialize itself once I've loaded my flight though.. At first nothing happens when I move it, then I get the windows sound indicating that Windows have found new hardware, and voila it works in FSX... at least on most planes.. Can't get it to function at all in the PMDG NGX or the FSLabs A320. In the NGX turning the wheel will always produce nose up trim regardless of the direction I turn the wheel, and in the FSLabs A320 I get no response at all in the sim

    ORBX are pretty close to finishing up their latest full region, Germany North. It should be released in the near future since their lead tester posted his "final shots" in their preview forum last wednesday.. that's usually a good indicator that a release is imminent.   19. Yeah, still the trench effect in that screenshot is kind of mild compared to others I've run into. There are a few in mountainous areas that became impossible to fly to/from after I added FS Global 2010 Mesh. There's one in north western Nepal where I had to circle in tight turns with the Quest Kodiak to get out of the trench, and that plane climbs like a bat out of hell. And I also seem to recall an airport in Western North Carolina where it was a challenge to take off and get out of the trench even in a helicopter. The runway was surrounded by steep mountain sides going a couple of 100 feet straight up, just by the end of the runway... I think that one was 85NC - Reagans Roost, the one in Nepal I can't even remember the name of.
  20. You are indeed correct John, there have been no reports on this either ways as far as i've seen... My intention was to include a "if they were indeed open/not properly secured" in my post, but I guess I lost my chain of thought while writing

There is in the SP, at least according to the release notes from JF and the video below But as the guy flying in the video mentions it's not in the "configuration window" accessible from within FSX, where you add stairs, pitot covers etc, but rather in a windows program that can be found in the start menu..
  22. Do you have FTX Vectors as well? If so perhaps you can sort it out via the Airport Elevation Correction (I think it's called) settings... If not, perhaps it's possible to adjust the elevation of the airport so it matches the surrounding ground elevation according to the Mesh using and AFCAD-editor of some sort, but when it comes to scenery editing I'm kind of out of my comfort zone as far as FSX goes

    Nvidia power

    HI Wayne. I knew of the issue but didn't know it could be changed from within Nvidia control panel. I use Nvidia Inspector to manage various driver settings for my graphics card, some that can't even be adjusted in detail from the Nvidia control panel. It's a nice little freeware program where different settings can be set for different games/sims, available here. http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/nvidia-inspector-download.html The only downside is that one needs to reapply the profiles for each game when the drivers are updated. Thankfully I only use it for settings in FSX. Not sure if it has support for X-plane and P3D though...
