  2. I've always loved flying. Ever since I was a kid and was allowed into the cockpit of our flight from Townsville (YBCS) to Perth (YPPH), damn I'm going to have to fly that route now... anyway, always loved it and have dabbled with Flight Sims over the years but since we bought our home last October I finally got my self a decent SimPit and have hit the sims in a big way. But I digress. after a passionate stay with Euro/American Truck Sim I finally got into Flight Sims and have been looking for something to really sink my teeth into as a good way to learn different aspect of flying and I stumbled upon the MEBAR after watching one of Froogle's YT vids. WOW, ok so cruising up the coast of Chile, yea that could be fun. Oh that's a really great looking plane for X-Plane, ok I'll fly that. Hmmm Ortho4XP.. yea I can do that! And so I found myself, ensconced in my Man Cave, with Wampa the Snow Dog (samoyed) beside me, a reef of airport sheets, the MEBAR run and weather sheets and a bunch of excitement to start. Leg 01 of my own personal Odessey had begun and what an amazing place to start! I honestly think I spent more time gawping at the amazing scenery and taking screenshot after screenshot than I did flying the damn plane (helps that the L410 is so nice to fly!). But I'm sure you can forgive me, especially when we passed one of our biggest waypoints of the trip. Leg 01 also lulled us into a false sense of security as all I can say about Leg 02 is thank goodness I was wearing my BROWN pants! Departure from SCNT was ok, a bit of water but otherwise fine. However what awaited us in the skies would leave us quaking in our jimmies for most of the flight! CLOUDS! And worse still... MOUTAINS IN THE CLOUDS!! At one point I managed to find a break in the clouds and decided to descend under the cloud cover as it should be "easier" WRONG After rounding the horn to the right I then proceeded to fly by instruments alone for a good 10 mins before finally breaking through. All this at an altitude of 1500' And ahh.... I kinda called BS @ SCHR and did not even attempt my touch and go there... BECAUSE IT WAS COVERED IN CLOUD!! I citied safety of my craft and crew for my failure to Touch N Go and I'm sticking to that. (it's just over that rise apparently) And then, when I'd FINALLY crested the last mountain.. the clouds parted and showed me nirvana, a clear run to SCCC. PHEW, made it. Many brews were drank that night! These two legs actually took me several days to fly due to Darth RealLife(tm) But I did manage to get a real good understanding of Ortho4XP and managed to find an EXCELLENT site for Freeware sceneries for Chile https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1DaqLfwaq0jnMxREy02Hh-MkiQCI&hl=en_US&ll=-32.961907060261204%2C-84.0956185&z=3

Hey guys, just had a though that maybe next year an island hoping adventure might be fun; Havana Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago Fukuoka Japan To Taipei Taiwan and finish in Manila Philipines Manado Indonesia to Vanuatu (or the Solomons) or maybe an African Safari? I'm almost finished my unofficial MEBAR2017 and really looking forward to next year!
  4. Mutley's Hangar is pleased to announce our latest flying challenge, the Mutley's Easter Bunny Air Rally (MEBAR) 2017. The madness which has become this "Flying Circus" returns for its seventh year and this year we are on the road again as we travel to far, distant lands. Now, it is said by some in the flight sim world that "no one flies in South America". This is probably because their idea of flying is a morning little jolly up and down their home valley, back to the airfield for some procedural circuits, and home in time for afternoon tea. For those of us that have ventured farther afield to the South American continent, we know it to provide a wealth of flying adventures and experience that is as rich and diverse as the geography is wild and varied. MEBAR 2017 consists of five Flight Legs starting at Puerto Williams, Chile, the southernmost city in the world - here is a chance to tick another item off your flight simming "bucket list". We then head north, because in Chile there really are only two directions to travel, weaving a course between the mountains and the coast, to finish at the capital, Santiago. So, prepare yourselves and your aircraft to enjoy the journey, and remember, "It's not cold, but it is Chile". Objective Because the MEBAR is a fun event, we'll be keeping it simple by asking you to select either a single or twin prop aircraft, that's the only real limitation but see the our Rules page for a definitive description. The MEBAR will provide an event for flight simulation pilots of all skill levels, from the novice to the more experienced pilots, and from all corners of the globe, to test their flight and navigation skills. The MEBAR will be held during the Easter holiday in mid-April 2017. Andrew Godden, who has organised the MEBAR since its inception, has kindly agreed to help us again this year with the MEBAR 2017, so we're in very good hands. There is a Test Flight to be completed prior to Registration to establish your aircraft type and cruising speed. Further details of the Test Flight, Rally Route and Rules etc. can be found by clicking on the navigation tabs at the top right of the MEBAR 2017 website pages. Event Format Overview The flights involve either and / or a combination of VOR, NDB and "dead reckoning" navigating under day Visual Flight Rule (VFR) and / or Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) conditions. Variable departure times and weather conditions will also exist for each flight. Eligible Aircraft Overview Eligible aircraft include any piston engine or turboprop engine aircraft. Turbojet, turbofan and other such engined aircraft are not eligible for entry in the event. The actual choice of aircraft is entirely at the discretion of the individual participant, provided it falls within the guidelines. Other considerations should include the Flight Leg distance, runway length and surface, and altitude performance. More information regarding aircraft eligibility is contained under the "Rules" link. Registration If you are interested in registering for the MEBAR 2017, have completed the test flight, have read and understand the rules and requirements for participating, click on the "Pilot Reg" link. Please note: Pilot registration closes 23:59 UTC on Wednesday, 12th April March 2017. So, fire up your sim and get cracking on the Test Flight! MEBAR 2017, and the fun starts here!   5. It was another great year for the MEBAR. Great legs and a fun plane to fly. Here are a few random pics from the trip. The first day was a tad cloudy. Saw lots of this, but usually less. Winding down on day 1. At least runway was visible. Was not thrilled about the low lying fog over one of the touch & go fields. Lost it twice in the pattern. This approach was much nicer. Really need to stick it on the numbers for the short touch & gos. Wrapping up another leg. Cranking a turn around a way point. Sunrise on leg 4 A few minutes earlier. On final on day 4. Letting Otto do the flying over the mountains. Another short touch & go. This looks ominous. Thanks again for another fun week. See you next year! I guess most of us know how to prepare a flight plan using the FSX tool or Plan-G, however, I wondered if a tutorial might help, particularly for those who'd like to join in with rallies like MEBAR but lack the confidence - and experience, maybe - to translate a rally flight briefing into a flyable flight plan.   10. Welcome aboard for Leg 4 of MEBAR 2015. We fly from Palonegro Intl (SKBG), Bucaramanga, to San Bernardo (SKMP), Mompos - a distance of around 240 nm. This Leg is 'blind', which adds to the excitement! Here's the Flight Plan in Plan-G (Thanks Tim): It's raining here at Palonegro as we take off at 7 am: Here's the sun coming up over the northern Andes: Our first waypoint, Hacaritama (SKAG), where we turn east: Now, we're established on the 101 deg in-bound radial for the LFA VOR: And soon we've arrived at Aguas Claras (SKOC) for a Full Stop.   11. We're almost halfway - this is Leg 3 of MEBAR 2015, from Medellin (SKMD) to Bucaramanga (SKBG). Only one dog-leg, this time!   12. This is where things get interesting, MEBAR 2015 Leg 2, from La Nubia (SKMZ) to Olaya Herrera (SKMD), and the first of 2 'blind' Legs where we're not told the Target Time in advance. Not that it makes much difference!   13. Some people love 'em some people hate 'em. This is a fun element, by default, legs 2 and 4 do not have published target times before you fly. However, some pilots would rather know what their target is, if you are one of those please email the rally and request the times and we would be happy to oblige Joe

Well, Team Mutley needs pilots, and that's where you can help. With 5 Legs to this year's MEBAR, 5 pilots would be ideal, so please post if you'd like to join in. And don't worry about the complexities of flight planning, we can help you with that! We'll decide which aircraft to use nearer the event. We've used the DC-3 before, but we're flexible, eh?!?   17. Hi all! I suppose I should post these shots of Leg 4 in the good old HS748, since it flies over my house! But more on that later We start off in the Isle of Man, at Rondalsway airport. Nice weather, especially since Leg 3. That bodes well, for later Prepping the engines, we get ready You can see the alteration to the HS748 panel - just the FTime gauge. The TCAS-like radar was default Engines starting Just looking around the AI and found this: It's a nice aircraft! And so, for only the second time, the engines are advanced without full brakes holding her down, we lift off Gear up Fully up Turning for the Emerald Isle Landfall Dublin (EIDW) is just visible to the left, and Poolbeg Towers (a welcome sight to any person returning to Ireland). Sadly, they were blown up a few years ago Weston airport ahead - it was quite a nice GA airport, but it closed last year First sight of Portlaoise in the distance Racing down the M7 on the right, with the railway line to the left. This is around Kildare (well, should be!) Turning around at Portlaoise Here's an explaination of the area Flying over the M7 junction marked out above Goodbye Ireland Gear down as we approach Llandber Finals It's amazing how slow this thing will land at - just look at the speeds! The 'A' Team - no age limit, but you must be high spirited and young at heart! 2. The 'Professionals' - not strictly Old Lags, but probably near the summit, if not over the hill...   21. Test flight conditions are pretty much as real world at EGHI today except it is warmer today. Here are some shots taken from my test flight. Luckily for me, this is my home airfield, I also have my Air Hauler HQ here too. The engine spools up nicely. On two-zero waiting for clearance. Whoa we're off. Climbing at quite a rate still on the runway heading. Over-flying Southampton City Centre, St Mary's stadium below, home of the Saints. Heading out west to establish height and give ourselves enough space to head north and intercept SAM 078 Passing overhead, timer on. No fancy repaint here, just slapped a logo on and a reg! Gatwick dead ahead A quality aircraft Not far now Pretty good even if I do say so myself! Ready to stop the timer... Stopped at 17.98 Thanks for viewing and happy flying
  22. Hi all! I think these are first first shots from a non-planning view point, so I hope you enjoy. The test flight was undertaken from Southampton (EGHI) to Gatwick (EGKK), overflying the two airports with timing between the two airports. I chose, for some reason, the Hawker Siddeley/Avro/British Aerospace/BAe HS.748 Mk1 (or just the 748). The paint is in Ryanair. To give you a quick history, c/n 1549 is a HS.748 Series 1/106. Built as G-MRRV, it served with Dan-Air, British Independent Airways and Ryanair. So here we are, on the runway at Southampton A view of the VC Rolling Good - my Flybe AI package is working Gear up Turning aorund to get hight This reminded me of a press shot Time started, we are leaving Southampton behind Hope we won't have to use this later Gatwick in the distance Overhead, stop the clock! On finals You don't hear that often! Touchdown, passing a more modern Ryanair And finally, just to prove it'll fit out of Shoreham! Total time - 11.59 - cruising speed 220kts! Bit faster than last year's 90kts in the Dragon Rapide! Kieran
  23. For this year's MEBAR, Mutley's Hangar will be entering 2 Teams for the Easter Bunny Air Rally. The 'A' Team, under the guidance of Kieran, needs 2 more members. If you've not taken part in one of Andrew's Rallies before then this would be a great opportunity to find out how things work. You'll have other team members to advise you on route planning, timing, and so on - so, if you're not sure how to go about things, it's a very good way of getting your feet wet, as it were.
