Whle I was having fun on the water, the Seasky kit has been mounted on the Eaglet, which was taken to the nearby Shearwater SPB. Weather is now friendly and we take off towards our first stop at Ocean Falls.

After some 15 mns of flight, we are at the last turn with the flaps already on approach configuration :

The Heiltsuk native speaking people inhabited the coastal region surrounding Ocean Falls for more than 9,000 years. In 1903, the Bella Coola Pulp and Paper Company surveyed the area and was impressed with the hydro power potential of the site. In 1906, following the company's acquisition of 260 acres (1.1 km2) of land, clearing began for the town and three years later, a sawmill, hospital and school were established. In 1912, the dam was erected and the pulp mill began operating.[4] The Ocean Falls pulp and paper mill was the largest mill in British Columbia for many years. Much of the electrical power for the mill and town was produced by four hydro turbines.

 

By the early 1970s, the facility was inefficient and uneconomical. The owner at that time, Crown Zellerbach, decided to close the plant and effectively shut down the town by March 1973. The provincial government bought the town and mill at a minimal cost a few weeks before the planned closure and kept the mill operating until 1980. The Ocean Falls mill thus joined the ranks of other older, remote pulp and paper mills in British Columbia shut down during the latter part of the twentieth century.

 

Ocean Falls' population numbered 250 in 1912 and grew to 3,500 by 1950. By 1970, the number of inhabitants had dropped to 1,500. By 1990, only about 70 people, mostly loggers, remained.

Taking off again from Ocean Falls, we climb to the upper story and follow the river until we can spot Tremadoc Lake :

Yes you can have freeware or payware boats, I got mine at Deltasim Studios ( not sure if they are P3D friendly ). In the freeware forums like Avsim, you can find some more.

 

At RTMM you can find special boat trips in PFJ and Tongass with starting coordinates, map and trip ticket.

Stage 3 : Bella Bella to Thumb Harbour   Part 3

 

Even good company must part at some point, and it is time to fly further. The lake is barely long enough for take off ( with Accu-Feel sticking to the water ) but luckily the lake is like a swiming pool with overflow and we can dive into the valley.

Really looking forward to my own tour of PNW now. Will have to get the Beaver shipped up from New Zealand once I finish my NZAR run. Might have to pick it up in the C-17 and fly it over. Talk about long haul! NZAA - KSFO O.o

After a few days off, time to fly further... Leaving Thumb Harbour with a light rain...  Southerly wind 9 knots, temperature 16° C, visibility 24 km , sky covered 5700 ft, pressure 1006 hPa

Past Boat Bluff I fly north until the mouth of the Canoona River on our left. Some boat traffic in the fjords.

You bet! Looking forward to my own tour later. Thinking I'll use the Twin Otter or Beaver with floats. Probably the twotter as she's sitting in the hanger waiting.

I wonder if they have any rules on which side of a fiord to fly, depending on direction flown, to keep things safe.
