Looking good - I purchased this as well and used it in conjunction with Ultra Weather XP - but I might just try it on it's own and see what I think.

Also, I am looking at reshade to go along side this too.

May I ask, what weather plugin/addon are you using? (if any) The one issue I have with XP11 at the moment it the fact clouds do not draw to the horizon. I have xEnviro and that does, but it does not have the functionality for custom weather.

Pictures look fab though mate!!

I use UWXP in conjunction with either ASXP or FSGRW.....

I have them all including Skymaxx Pro & Xenviro....for me at the moment UWXP looks best and Skymaxx seems to be the one that slows my system the most, Xenviro I will await 1.10 and see how that goes, I have seen a video show accumulative snow effects....

Thanks to both of you for mentioning Ultra Weather XP. I just finished watching a YouTube video demo, and it looks great! I've added it to my purchase bucket list.

I would be keen to know how you get on with Ultra Weather XP as I would like to install a weather program into my XP setup.

Do you know if it has "live" weather?

I really do like UWXP, I have it set to load random sets upon every load but you get set it how you like.......as for weather it can use what's supplied by XP11 or you can download NOAA(free), use Flight sim global weather if you have it or get Activesky Xplane....these will all decode the weather and UWXP will display it.......there may be issues you get as with all software but up until now I have not had any problems, also if you put in TE from ORBX and a high end aircraft you may lose FPS but we all expect that in any sim........however like I said previously I have them all and this is the easier on my system and I think it looks good to...... the first 3 pics above were with no weather as I wanted to see the effects of Xvision and show off JF's next XP release, the last was using Axticesky XP to decode the weather.....it's a bit like using AS16 for weather in P3D and some other app to adjust clouds, sky etc....

You can get lots of weather injectors for XP - I have tried xEnviro and Active Sky XP - both of these have real world 'live' weather. Active Sky however lets you create your own custom weather too, so that is handy. xEnviro does not allow for this, only real live weather all the time.

NOAA is a good freeware weather injector, this is a little fidly to setup but should be up and running within 10minutes or so.

UWXP and xVision are both programmes that render the weather (not inject the weather) - so these things are the plugins that makes things look shiny :)

You may also be interested in Reshade too - this has different effects that can make the sim look good too - once again, really simple to setup.

The issue I am having at the moment with UWXP is that it does not seem to 'start' when loading a flight, and I have to click the 'UWXP Main Set' button every time. So I am keen to see whether the 2.5 version fixes this for me.

I uninstalled xEnviro for Active Sky a while back - but xEnviro apparently is the only weather programme that draws clouds ot the horizon, else you get that horrible overcast ring around the plane. So I would be looking forward to future Active Sky updates and the new version of xEnviro to see which one is better.

The deal breaker for me with xEnviro was the fact it only took real live weather - I like to do VFR and on rubbish low visibility days, I like to change the weather to something better. Hopefully this will be something they add in the future too.

@UKJim I think Xvision is like PTA only for XPLANE, pretty sure it's not a weather engine, great support to just emailed and got a reply in about 10 minutes.

If you download Xorganiser it allows you to turn off or disable addons without uninstalling, I always start sim from there as I sometimes chop and change stuff....just google it but it may be at dotorg...

I like to use real weather so xEnviro looks good to me although $70 is a bit more than I want to spend right now having just purchased X-Plane 11 loads of ORBX stuff and three top end payware aircraft since Christmas. (the wife doesn't need to know this  :whis:)

Can you turn off xEnviro and set up the weather in X-Plane native?  It looks like what I need but I would like to be able to step outside it once in a while.

Yes you can get xPlane to use real live weather - you go into the weather customisation on the flight configuration page - then at the very bottom (under all the 'layers' of clouds) there is a dropdown that lets you select live weather and then select the update intervals.

I would recommend Active Sky XP for live weather and at least then you have the option to setup some scary weather too ;) I loaded up xEnviro again last night and went straight back to Active Sky, just didn't like it. It is a lot of money for what it is, and you can get better for cheaper with Active Sky imo.

I don't think I said it was a weather engine mate? If I did then I must have been half asleep ;) But yeah it's just a shader tweak tool like PTA.

I did email regarding my issues and got a response, but it was just a 'wait for next version' kind of response. So I will wait and see what that brings. Hopefully all will be sorted, as it is a great tool

I must have read it wrong, no worries......regarding Xenviro I would say to @J G wait and see what v1.10 brings, they are promising a lot but not sure what they will deliver......for me weather and ATC in XP have always been a bit of a let down, but I have seen improvements in both, like I said before I use 124th mostly for ATC, it's basic but works and is free, I have Pilot2ATC hich is really good but very clunky on a feeling of being over complicated, you also ideally need another screen which I don't have....

At the moment I am thinking that I should let X-Plane update the live weather and get Active sky.  I don't need updates to the weather any more often than once an hour so this seems, on the face of it, to be a good option.

I would quite like to get some feedback from you X-Plane old timers on this proposal.

Thanks

Hi,

So all Active Sky is going to do at the moment is inject real live weather, or custom weather you create into the sim. Likewise, letting XP11 get the weather will do pretty much the same - although Active Sky has a few more bells and whistles in terms of settings and improvements.

You then have things like Ultra Weather XP and xVision that gives you fancy graphics using the injected weather. So this helps the sim draw the weather in a beter way etc.

I would alway stick with what is given for free before purchasing, but if you're not happy with the results then go purchase. It will be better once HiFi Active Sky does the smooth weather transitions and maybe the cloud drawing too. But I think we are a way off from that just yet.

There are other freeware weather injectors like NOAA that improve the features of XP11 default weather engine. Go check this out as it may be the ideal 'in between' option.

Good luck mate

Thanks Jim.

I think I will give NOAA a spin to see how that goes.   The default sky and clouds seem good to me so I will leave them alone.

I have to say its been almost a month since I went X-Plane and I am still wowed by it.  I have gone from MSFS WTF its crashed again to X-Plane WTF that's brilliant!

I am also spending more time flying now as I don't spend ages trying to figure out what has gone wrong in FSX.

I am still favouring P3D, but XP11 is so close too to be honest. It's good how you can tweak and use addons easily I guess. So much free stuff out there, you don't have to spend anything if you don't want to.

Let us know how you get on and also post some screens :)

I still use both, mostly because I have Aircraft in them both that I really like, however unless something big happens for p3dv5 v4 is probably my limit.

NOAA is good for giving fairly accurate weather, I do see people on XP moaning that the weather is not exactly what they are seeing and see it's a report from a station that's updated every 6 hours...

I chop and change but today I flew Inverness to Bristol, (was working from home?).....over TE UK and using UWXP and ASXP, I was pleased with what I saw and the ORBX scenery is amazing....
