    Superb! Iconic!
  2. Hi, Phil, When you installed the Nvidia drivers, did you do a clean install? Have you run chkdsk /f? If you're using a hard disk drive rather than a SSD, have you defragmented the hard drive? Have you run sfc /scannow from an administrative Command Prompt? Dan
  3. An informative review of VR in MSFS can be found at Microsoft Flight Simulator in VR: A turbulent start for wide-open skies
  4. I run three operating systems on my computer. Proudly, I have blocked access to Facebook on all three. Dan
  5. As of the afternoon of November 1st, there has been no MSFS hot fix issued in the eastern United States. However, a new liveries mega pack was released on November 1st, which fixes the liveries issues. (The liveries problem was the only problem that I had been experiencing).
  6. The new update broke freeware liveries, too. I had installed 600 liveries from the latest mega pack. Right now, none of them work. I hope the hot fix remedies the problems without breaking something else!
  7. Arnie, I followed nearly all of the suggestions in Nick N's "Bible" for Windows 7, but, as I recall, I didn't do so until after I had installed MSFS in Windows 10. I'm glad to hear that your P3D installation was successful. Oddly enough, I haven't been able to replicate the "press any key" problem in the past few days. Maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe some change has been made on the server side. Dan
  8. The zendesk article confirms my previously-stated suspicion that the problem could be related to version 2004 of Windows 10. With update Tuesday almost here, perhaps it would be best for Arnie to delay another try until after installing the latest updates. Of course, there are three possibilities with the latest updates: 1. No difference. 2. Problem solved. 3. (Gulp) problem worse. Hopefully, Arnie, your P3D build will be successful, which would indicate a general lack of corruption in Windows 10 and no need to repair or reinstall Windows 10. Dan
  9. Brett makes a very interesting observation above. It makes sense that there can be no working response to "press any key" if the focus has gone AWOL. Dan
  10. Another possible workaround when pressing any key doesn't work, is to press a mouse button. This worked for me, this morning. It begs the question: When starting MSFS, does MSFS sometimes think that I'm using an Xbox game controller rather than a computer keyboard?
  11. Hi, Arnie, I, too, often get no response at the "press any key" screen. Sometimes (but not always), using Task Manager to kill MSFS and then rebooting solves the problem. Yesterday, the problem went away by killing MSFS with Task Manager and then immediately restarting MSFS without rebooting. Since I,too, am using version 2004 of Windows 10, I am wondering whether the problem resides with MSFS or with Windows 10 version 2004? (This is pure conjecture.) It will be interesting to see whether the October update Tuesday release fixes the problem. In the meantime, the Task Manager remains
  12. Soya, Thanks for the great video! Very enjoyable. I assume that seat location comes with noise-cancelling headphones? I'm glad to see that you now have 32GB of RAM. Adding RAM can make an immediate difference, and it can prolong the life of your system. Dan
  13. I had no problem with the latest Nvidia driver for my GeForce 970 graphics card. I installed the driver via GeForce Experience. The graphics slider for MSFS in GeForce Experience was initially set all the way to the left for "performance." In my case, I found that I could set the slider all the way to the right for "quality."
  14. I am running three operating systems: Windows 7 (offline), Linux and Windows 10. After the new Microsoft Flight Simulator is released, I will be running four flight simulators: FSX, X-Plane 11, DCS and the new MSFS...all on one computer. I dual boot Windows 7 and Linux. Windows 7 is on two HDDs and Linux is on a SSD. Windows 10 is accessed on a second SSD via a hardware SATA switch to keep Windows 10 completely isolated. (I switch off my other drives before turning on my Windows 10 drive.) I keep all of my old FSX work preserved on Windows 7. I run X-Plane 11 on Linux. Windows 1
  15. I'm jumping back into this conversation since there is so much interest. Every day, in order to get some positive news, I read Phys.org to keep abreast of some of the wonderful work scientists are doing. Here are links to recent articles (including photos and videos) that I have read about radio astronomy: New distance measurements bolster challenge to basic model of universe Preparations complete in western Australia for construction of world's largest telescope Scientists close in on 12-billion-year-old signal from the end of the universe's 'dark age' Dan
  16. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing both your screenshots and your comments.

  18. Here's an interesting one. In X-Plane 11.41, I combined "Better Lights" freeware with "Extended Night Lighting" freeware, The below screenshot was taken while approaching the 405 freeway near KLAX. Below is another example that shows how lights can be made visible well into the distance. The screenshot is of Miami in X-Plane 11.50.
  19. I've had the A350 bookmarked for possible purchase, for some time. Since real-world popularity of the A350 is increasing, it seems to be an aircraft that I should have. FlightFactor appears to be pretty good about continuing to update it. However, the low VRAM requirement may indicate the visual model is not all that it could be and could be improved.
  20. Thanks for the link. I found Crater Lake. Here's what it looks like in X-Plane 11.41 default summer scenery. Below is what it looks like using the free SAM Seasons plugin with "Deep Winter" enabled. It's wonderful to have scenery options. Flight simmers can choose the look they prefer.
  21. Oh, I forgot about Crater Lake! I'll have to do a flight over it, myself. Impressive screenshots!
