Don't pay the ransom - I got away!

I haven't posted any new diagrams since 5/24. Have been fully engaged with the visit by Mr. and Mrs. Mutley and we were away from the house for a week of it. There are still a few days left to enjoy their company but I managed a little time tonight to get caught up on the airports that Quickmarch has produced in the interim. I also uploaded one (LICT) that I did as a demo, showing Mutley how I work through them.

All the Canadian airports in the list are by Quickmarch and he informs me that he's finished the list for British Columbia. I'm very grateful to him for all his work on these.

From his comments...

CYXX - One of BC's busier airports, home to numerous aircraft rebuilding companies and the Abbottsford Air Show -

CYZP - way up north in the Queen Charlotte Islands.

There are two new and an update tonight. One of the new is an old-new, one that Quickmarch had sent me in the dim and distant past and which I'd forgotten to upload and distribute. That one is CZMT Masset.

My new one today is GMML, Hassan I, in Western Sahara. I also managed an update to KHXD, Hilton Head, in SC.

Three new ones tonight. I should be posting normal numbers for the next few days but am disappearing on another vacation next week and will not be producing any during that time. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Two new and an update of a fairly major regional airport in Peoria, Illinois. The update went to two plates, even though the original was only one.

DIYO in Ivory Coast is from the national capitals list, which is approaching exhaustion.

2AR7 is an odd 3-runway grass field with all three nearly parallel. It has no buildings or much of anything else to recommend it but the multiple runways qualified if for diagramming.

None of these is too remarkable. ANYN is on Nauru Island and is a national capital. It's not much of an island. There are only about a dozen left to do in that list.

TS96 is a single runway asphalt strip, but it appears Microsoft left out some exclusion rectangles, so if your scenery density is set high the place appears to need some serious chain saw work. It's nothing that can't be fixed quickly in ADE.

KPNT is an update of the oldest airport in the collection, from November 2009.

Only one today - it was a busy day. I won't have any more until at least next Saturday. Yes, I'm off on another vacation to rest up from the last vacation. Anyway, enjoy Ft Wayne International. It's a pretty serious airport. It became a 2-plater to get all the taxiways labeled, and had a couple of custom buildings as well.

I've survived yet another vacation, to the wilds of Marathon, Florida, way down in the lower Keys. Very nice place.

On my first full day back, here are three new airport diagrams, two from Europe and one from the thumb area of Michigan.

EHWO is a Dutch air base, from the military airfields list. It's pretty light on buildings (1) but has ILSs to both ends of a runway nearly 8,000' long.

EETN is from the national capitals list, slowly rolling up the few remaining items there. Tallinn is the capital of Estonia, with a single runway a little over 10,000' long. It has about a half-dozen custom buildings and a good assortment of navaids and published approaches (the ones you can use in the FS GPS if you wish to) and looks like a nice place to visit.

Marlette, 77G, has two paved, crossing runways, a couple of custom hangar buildings and a respectable handful of published approaches. It's off the beaten path, in the Michigan thumb, way north of Detroit. Who knows some AirHauler may need a Skylane full of cabbages delivered there someday. If they do, we'll be ready.

The first one is O88, which I expected to be in Ohio - proving once again that there's no figuring out ICAO codes, particularly the 3-character ones. It's in Rio Vista, California. This one is a smallish, un-towered, 2-runway airport with an ample ramp and lots of parking, plenty of nearby navaids and a couple of published approaches.

LFBC is Cazaux AB in France, coming from the military airfields list, of course. The obligatory grass runway that parallels the paved one is incorrectly labeled in FSX - it should be 06R/24L but instead FSX has it as 06L/24R. I'm not sure whether to blame Microsoft or the French - I'd judge them to be equally likely as a source of the error. Nonetheless, the diagram accurately reflects what is in FSX, right or wrong.

The updated diagram today is EGTG, Filton, in Bristol, England. The original diagram was done in October 2009. In this update, I made it a 2-plater because of taxiway labeling. This is an old and historic airport, which has hosted some big names in the aircraft business over the years, including BAE, R-R and Airbus. The runway is a generous 300' wide, though is only a little over 8,000' long. The real-world Filton was closed late in 2012.

I did all of these this morning - that's so long ago I can barely remember them. Two of the three are in the Middle East, one each in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The latter, OMAS Das Island is on a little island out in the Gulf, with nothing else on it but the runway and a bunch of oil tanks, which should not raise any eyebrows in that part of the world. I didn't include the oil tanks in the diagram since they are all outside the airport "flatten" area.

OENG, Nejran in Saudi Arabia is a one-runway, towered airport over 10,000' long. It has a full length parallel taxiway and one ILS, along with a number of other approaches. The ramp is small and there are only a half-dozen buildings. I suspect this is not a major airpatch in the Saudi nation.

The odd man out tonight is SMJP, Pengel Intl, in Zandery, Suriname. It's similar to OENG, except that the runway is longer at almost 11,500' and there is no full-length parallel taxiway. This crosses another one off the national capitals list. I don't believe that the listed city is the capital, but this is the airport that serves the capital in that country.

Today is an update day - KEYW Key West came out of the hat for that one. When first looking at it in ADE the number of yellow rectangles (bounding rectangles for custom objects) was a shocker, but most turned out to be blocks of automobiles in the parking lot. Much of what showed in the ADE view did not need to be brought over to the airport diagram. The number of labeled taxiways did make it desirable to go to two plates and I did that.

The first of the two new ones today is MHSC, a military field in Honduras. It's a one-runway affair - about 8,000', with a lot of approaches and a few buildings. There's lots of taxiways but only the four runway turnoffs are labeled in FSX.

The other new one, LFVP, Saint Pierre, is from the national capitals list but is actually a small, self-governing dependency of France, lying hard against the coast of Canada. It's a one-runway airport with 6,000' of pavement and lots of approaches. I guess that part of the world gets more than its share of dirty WX, so those are a good idea. It is towered and shows two NDBs close enough to the field to designate them as "...on Field". I generally do that if the navaid is within a runway length and abeam the runway. If it's lined up anywhere near an extended runway centerline, it only gets designated as "...on Field" if it's within the airport "flatten" area - otherwise gets the standard distance and bearing treatment even if very close in.

The first one today is 52B, Greenville, in Maine. It's unusual in that it has a pair of runways, both water. There isn't much else there but ADE does show a MS fuel pump on the shoreline nearby, so I included that in the diagram. You don't run into places like that every day in FSX.

O41 is another California airport, smallish, in Woodland, California. The runway is only about 3,800' but it is paved and has generous over-runs at both ends. The ramp is pretty large and there are a fair number of buildings for this kind of field. There is also a pretty good taxiway network connecting everything. It's non-towered but is lighted and has one GPS circling approach on the published list.

Last is a French Airbase (how many do they have???) LFBM in a place called Mont-de-Marsan. I hadn't diagrammed it before but the name rang a bell and I went searching. It seems I landed a Boxwings C-130E there on October 12, 2007, in my Cargo Pilot days - before AirHauler. There's a photo posted in this thread, about halfway down the first page - look for a foggy scene with a C-130 in it... http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/index.php/topic/705-random-picture-thread/?hl=lfbm#entry5374

LFBM is a towered, single-runway air base with a strip almost 12,000' long and a published ILS at one end. It lacks the nearly mandatory parallel grass strip that most French airports seem to have - these guys must not have gotten the memo. It also has the DME that is often found on military fields, really a TACAN. The diagram went to two plates because of extensive taxiway labeling.

I actually did the work on these two days ago but never had time to send them to the subscribers or update the forum thread about them. Life is good, but busy.

SUMU is the main international airport at Montevideo, Uraguay. You may remember that Montevideo was the last port of call for the German pocket battleship Graf Spee. This is a good sized three-runway airport with a couple of ILSs, a custom terminal building, a whole slew of navaids, mainly LOM/LMM/NDB types and about a half dozen published approaches. This culls one more of the quickly waning list of national capitals.

KMAO is Marion Co airport in Marion, South Carolina, with a single paved strip of about 4,500 feet and a small ramp on a direct taxiway stub from the runway - no parallel taxiways. The field is lighted and has a couple of published approaches, but is non-towered.

The updated field on the list is EGHR, Goodwood, in Chichester, UK. It has four gras strips, two parallel and the other two crossing willy-nilly at odd angles. There is a fuel pump but no buildings in stock FSX. The longest of the strips is just over 4,000' with the others considerably shorter. It's non-towered but one runway is lighted; there are nearby navaids but no published approaches.

I only got two done today, however the second one, KYUM in Yuma was quite a handful. It's a combined use field with Yuma Intl and a Marine Corps Air Station on the same airport. It has four runways, one a whopping 13,300' X 200'. It also had a few custom buildings and enough labeled taxiways that a second plate was needed - that makes it a zip file for you.

The other one today is 7B3, in Hampton, New Hampshire. It's an odd little airport with one grass strip, only 2100' long but 170' wide. It has a bunch of buildings, a fuel pump and a taxiway network including a full length parallel taxiway with branches to the runway and stubs to buildings in various places. It's non-towered but the runway is lighted.

I held off on doing a third one today - the next one up is a major and there didn't appear to be enough day left in my day to bite off one that large. Tomorrow is another day.

7CO4 Williams Ranch - New Raymer, Colorado - US

KDRI Beauregard Regl - De Ridder, Louisiana - US (updated)

Current Airport Diagram Stats @ Mutley’s Hangar: Uploads 2,065; downloads 2,405; subscribers 13

The "major" I mentioned yesterday is done - ENGM, in Oslo Norway, from the national capitals list. It's a good sized airport in one of my least favorite formats - two parallel runways but offset axially from one another. For large airports that format is a recipe for a small scale diagram and usually for some difficulty labeling taxiways. In this case I did manage to blow up the image on the second plate and get the labels in without having to slice the airport image into pieces.

ENGM is a well appointed international. One of the two runways is almost 11,800' long and there are ILSs to all four ends. There are numerous custom buildings and a complex network of taxiways.

At the other end of the airport complexity spectrum is 7CO4, Williams Ranch in New Raymer, Colorado. When the airport name contains the word "Ranch" you shouldn't expect much. This one has four grass runways and literally nothing else in FSX. It made the cut by virtue of having multiple runways.

Today's update is KDRI, Beauregard Regl, in De Ridder LA. I note that the airport name changed from FS9 to FSX - it was formerly Beauregard Parish. This airport has a closed runway which lies pretty much east to west, but is numbered 01/19. I've seen this before in FS - they seem to number closed runways, 1, 2, 3, etc, with the appropriate reciprocal, regardless of the actual direction of the runway. KDRI was originally diagrammed in November of 2009.

The first one today is Y96, Goetz Co, in far north Onaway, Michigan, in da land of da Yoopers. If you're not steeped in Michigan lore, you probably were unaware that there are two kinds of Michganders, da Yoopers and da Trolls, however most of the latter don't realize they are Trolls, since it's a somewhat derogatory term mostly used by da Yoopers. Da Trolls, naturally, dey live below da bridge, eh? Most Trolls never venture north of da bridge, so mostly don't know they are Trolls. Trolls also comprise most of the Fudgies, a temporary title conferred upon tourists who frequent the fudge shops of Mackinac City, Mackinac Island and St. Ignace in high summer, which is locally defined as three weeks of bad skiing in August. By the way, "Mackinac" is properly pronounced as if it were spelled "Mackinaw". Had enough of Michigan culture? Me too - that's why I live in Florida - y'all - where the skiing is always bad.

Y96 has a single runway, 2,600 X 60, with a stub taxiway and a ramp and a half dozen buildings in FSX. There is no fuel pump, no tower, no published approaches but there is an NDB within easy snowmobiling distance.

The next airport is ETME, Eggebek Navy, in the German city of the same name. It's a reasonably big airfield but is typical of many military fields in FSX - few buildings, unlabeled taxiways, a DME on the field, no published approaches. They tend to look kind of bleak, unless you have a traffic program installed that dresses them up a little. Sometimes those include an AFCAD to provide enhanced parking, military AI traffic, and if you're lucky, a few additional buildings. Since we're documenting the stock versions, you get none of the above with this one.

Finally, we have LZIB, from the national capitals list leaving only eight more to finish it. This one is the airport serving Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It has four runways, but two of them are grass strips, hard up against the two crossing paved runways. The big runways are a few hundred feet shy of 10,000' long but one is 197' wide - I assume that translates to something "round" in meters.

This field has a good sized ramp, three custom buildings and a robust taxiway network. It also has a handful of closed taxiways to add interest and a good assortment of navaids nearby, including an LOM and an LMM for each of the two ILSs. The taxiway labeling took me to a second plate and the lack of room for listing all the navaids forced a third plate, which contains those and also repeats most of the other text information from the main view.

The two new ones today were hardly worth bothering with, but at least they were easy to do. For the first one, 5TE4, if the airport name contains "Ranch", don't expect too much. Both of these made the cut by virtue of having a paved runway but neither has much else to back that up with. The other one is UG25 in Georgia, the eastern European Georgia, not the one north of Florida. They were both the luck of the draw and came from separate lists - they could just as easily have been major airports as the lists are randomized and each of the four lists I'm currently using contributes one airport, in a strict rotation.

The update today is a little more of a real airport, EGLC, London City. That was the oldest file in the collection, from November of 2009. The update adds some details that weren't in my original version, including magnetic variation, approaches, custom buildings and a few other minor things and I went to two plates because of taxiway labels. I might not have strictly needed to do that but I hated to clutter up the main view with them. Also, all current diagrams are from FSX - most of the early ones were from FS9 and though most are the same in all the basics, the earlier ones lack some of the detail of the FSX airports.

Maybe the list gods will cough up something more interesting tomorrow.

I just noticed it's clicked over to July. I need to start a new thread for these.

See the list above. I'm not hitting on all cylinders tonight and am foregoing the chatter about them.

I've copied the July posts incorrectly made in this thread to a new thread. They're in both places since there were some responses that I didn't want to leave hanging.
