Ready to go at Redding Municipal Airport (KRDD) in the fantastic C337H Skymaster.

After takeoff and climbing to about 8000 feet to clear the mountains up ahead. The low cloud could be obscuring mountain tops, so we have to ensure we reach at least 8000 before we hit the start of the ranges.

The orange terrain starts to turn into the yellow and eventual green on the tree-covered mountains ahead.

There is heavy logging in the hills and mountains east of Shingletown creating a checkerboard effect on the landscape.

Careful checking of the flight path and terrain ahead is needed with this low cloud hugging the ground.

Butt Mountain area out to the right as we remain on track to Rogers Field. We are roughly overhead the Lassen Volcanic National Park.

The first glimpse of Lake Almanor between the mountain ridge lines up ahead.

With a direct path to Rogers Field from Redding, we have to stay at 8000 feet until we clear Stover Mountain below. The field is dead ahead, so we will turn back North and make an approach coming over the town of Chester.

Turning to base. Note the airport elevation is 4534 feet, so we are really only 3,000 ft above ground level at this stage, and descending nicely on approach.

Established on final. We pass over a large logyard just ahead before touching down. Don't over-run at Rogers Field or you could end up wet!

And safely down. Welcome to Chester, Lake Almanor and Rogers Field (also known as Chester Airport).

This was a nice, scenic flight offering many transitions of terrain type. Come and give it a try!
