At the end of their front line service, many jets are sent off to become target drones or to become test aircraft for various military and experimental work. Most are easily identified by splashes of bright red paint in certain areas. They usually acquire a Q designation to identify them from the Active service machines. Those used as targets are often flown by remote control and frequently destroyed. Here we have a QF-8  Crusader  involved in such work.
