ConcordeGuy 0
Same as JF: Hi, To prevent my brother having a sneep peak on my computer whilst I was on holiday, i removed the onboard battery, the CMOS cap and all SATA connections from the mainboard. I then replaced them all after a week, and now the system does not boot. I tried clearing the CMOS in the usual way, but no avail. What has the clumbsy Robbie done?? Help appriciated

ConcordeGuy 0
Well i just bought a new battery, that'll teach me, CR2032 batteries are not rechargeable!!!
Magic Man 0
But I doubt if the battery suddenly died because you took it out - they last a long time...
MartinW 0
Nor me! However, he could have immersed it in a mug of tea for safekeeping, or his brother could have stamped on it with his size 12's for a laugh. Next time I'm sure he'll just set a password. :blush

ConcordeGuy 0
It was left for 8 days, long enough? Also, i hid the battery, the cap and SATA cables in an envelope (ESD bag) in my secret drawer (the very top drawer, hint hint)
Magic Man 0
It's not a chargeable battery so doesn't lose it's charge (well, eventually it would) - you taking it out for 8 days was no different than all the other CR2032's sitting in their blister packs on the shelf behind the till in Boots for months on end... The battery is fine.
