Posted this elsewhere, we all know the drill

Thought I'd share this with you all, recently it was announced (unfortunately) that RAF Leuchars or RAF Lossiemouth was to close here in Scotland UK, we'd already lost RAF Kinloss and the communitys of both our last two bases in Scotland put up a lot of support ... I really think it was a done deal some time ago but it was our RAF Lossie base that survived the defence cuts, yesterday our local free community mini magazine (Spotlight) dropped through the letter box with a surprise thank you from the RAF on one if its pages for all the support the local community gave in trying to keep RAF Lossiemouth alive in the recent crisis ... and as an aviation enthusiast (also my late Dad was RAF) its much appreciated

Its not all bad news for RAF Leuchars though, some returning Army will later be stationed there and also at nearby (ex) RAF Kinloss that was closed. Leuchars will still have the annual Scottish airshow, even though it will become an Army base and that makes sense as that base is far more central and the Army would need the runways and control tower too.

But I must admit I do relish the thought of seeing the Typhoon Eurofighters over my skys along side the Lossie Tornado's ... if the RAF F-35 aircraft ever happen they will be based here too.

Here is the scan, whoever thought it up has a good sense of humour ... quite cute

The letter appears in the mag lopsided, its not my bad scanning ... though this is the first scan I've tried in years!
