UKJim 502
Hi guys, I have 2 C208B Cargomasters in my company but want to expand a bit more with a bigger plane that is still in the light category. I've looked at the porter as it has a big cargo hold but its slow. So any suggestions for a plane with bigger cargo hold than the Cargomaster that has a decent speed too and can land on a runway less than 1000ft? Money isn't important as I wud save up and get it! Cheers Jim
PanzerFodder 0
Jim, I think that the C208 is right on the limit, with regards to size, you may have to step up to a medium sized plane to get any real cargo capacity and speed over the caravan . Don't know anyone that is useing a Fokker 60 in AH http://www.precisionaerobus.com/ but this thing looks like it might be really usfull Fokker 50 is also availible from the same compamy Also have a look at the Flight1 ATR-72-500 http://atr.flight1.net/ Cheer's...Graham... PanzerFodder 0
Dammit and the F60 only needs abour 2,800ft ? Twotter dammit! Twotter! Why d'you think they're all over - that PF should be locked up somewhere1 . . . He's already got a twotter . http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/index.php/topic/7556-aerosoft-twin-otter-details/ Cheer's...Graham...
UKJim 502
Ah I like the look of the ATR but maybe will go for a twotter instead as I already have it in my hangar. Cheers guys P.S. Maybe one day I will get a

allardjd 1,853
I don't think you're going to be able to stuff an ATR into a 1,000 foot runway, nor fly it out again. John

John Oop's! he did say 1000 feet, my bad (I should have suggested a Chinook in that case ) BTW: Have you got any stats for the F50/F60 or ATR John, just out of interest as I was planning on one of those as my next plane . allardjd 1,853
I was going to recommend the PC-12 but looking at the performance charts, the only way it will take off in 1,000 feet is with some favorable combination of weight, wind, temperature and density altitude - most importantly, a pretty low weight. It's going to be hard to beat the Caravan, Quest Kodiak or Twotter for this kind of work. None of them are particularly fast (Twotter is probably the fastest) but they do reasonably big loads into unreasonably short runways. Maybe a turbo-Beaver might work out too. Agree - this looks like a job for a Chinook, but that's not fast either. John EDIT: I just found a dark horse, though the payload is not nearly as big as a Caravan. The Carenado C-210M can mostly get off in about 1500 feet or less at MTOW, but the obstacle clearance distance is a lot longer. I think Carenado just released a turbo-charged, pressurized version (later model) of the C-210 and that might have better take-off performance. The 210, with retractible gear and no wing struts is pretty fast but isn't in the same load-carrying class as the other things mentioned here. JDA
PanzerFodder 0
The standard load for the Kodiak (FSX version) was only about 1250 when I installed mine . Since then I found a review, and the guy doing it pointed out that the real Kodiak recieved an weight increase ticket at some point. He has done a upgrade tweek for the FS9/FSX planes, that I have pasted below in blue. Do a google search for "Quest Aircraft Kodiak 100 A Chief Pilot essay by Claes Sundström, SPA 476" if you want to read the review Tuning the Kodiak The aircraft.cfg file that comes with the Kodiak build 2.6 does not take into account the increased gross weight certification. Nor does it offer the possibility to distribute payload any other way than at the center of gravity. I have modified my aircraft.cfg in the following way, to account for the above mentioned issues; [WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE] max_gross_weight = 7255 empty_weight = 3770 reference_datum_position = 0, 0, 0 empty_weight_CG_position = 0, 0, -1 // CG_forward_limit = 0 // CG_aft_limit = 1 max_number_of_stations = 14 station_load.0 = 170, 0, 1.1, 0, Pilot station_load.1 = 170, 0, -1.1, 0, Co-pilot station_load.2 = 0, 3.1, 1.1, 0, Seat 1l station_load.3 = 0, 3.1, -1.1, 0, Seat 1r station_load.4 = 0, 5.3, 1.1, 0, Seat 2l station_load.5 = 0, 5.3, -1.1, 0, Seat 2r station_load.6 = 0, 7.5, 1.1, 0, Seat 3l station_load.7 = 0, 7.5, -1.1, 0, Seat 3r station_load.8 = 0, 9.8, 1.1, 0, Seat 4l station_load.9 = 0, 9.8, -1.1, 0, Seat 4r station_load.10 = 0, -5, 0, 0, Cargo main station_load.11 = 0, -14, 0, 0, Cargo aft station_load.12 = 0, 3, 0, -1.5, Cargo pod forward station_load.13 = 0, -3, 0, -1.5, Cargo pod aft The positions of each seat and cargo station is a rough estimate based on the stated cabin dimensions in the technical specifications section. The changes I made to the file enables the passengers and payload to interfere with the aircraft center of gravity. After pasting those numbers into my aircraft CFG I did see a small cargo capacity increase, although the plane now feels a bit more sluggish in flight, it has also pushed the AH Purchase price up a bit as well, and the weight is the same for all models, Float/Cargo/ and cargo with pod Aircraft : Quest Kodiak Publisher/Developer : lionheart creations Sim Version : FSX AH Purchase Cost : $958,242.00 Lease Deposit : $119,780.25 Monthly Lease Payment: $53,235.67 MTOW : 7255 Empty Weight : 3770 Max Fuel : 320 (USG) Cargo Capacity : 1341 Cheer's...Graham...
