  1. Yes, you're right. I'll have to rethink the connections.
  2. I think the issue here is the connection of the hub to the pc. Because I had to relocate my computer (it was resting against the central heating, not a problem in the summer) I had to extend the cable from the hub in my pedestal. That's when the problems started. I'll have to rethink my FS setup
  3. Thanks Brian, I have 15 USB devices connected, 7 (Opencockpits radio, 2 x NAV, ADF, XPNDR, G-throttle and OC FMC-CDU)via a good quality USB powered hub and the rest (OC MCP, a HID card for a button box and a Leo Bodnar card, yoke and rudder, a Logitech keyboard and mouse receiver and the Matrox TH2GO) directly to the computer. Mixed USB2 and 3 but that shouldn't be a problem, should it ?Also since my Saitek yoke was never recognized on start up, I also have a powered hub for that. Now it's recognized just fine. I'm not using the hub in the Saitek yoke. It's extremely frustrating, I was j
  4. I've never encountered so many problems when building a new flight sim pc. I've done this for years but this time..... Ok, here's the next one : this usually happens when I'm still preflighting so after a few minutes : one of my connected USB devices suddenly becomes an unknown device and the only way to get it back is by restarting the computer. Does anyone know why this is happening ? Is it a power issue ? The devices are connected to a powered USB hub so I think not. Martin
  5. Well, rebuilding the fsx.cfg seems to have done the trick, although I'm not really able to test because of the next problem : USB
  6. Thanks guys. I'll try deleting the fsx.cfg and see whether it makes a difference. Also I'll look into the sound setup. I have a very old 5.1 setup connected. I'll replace it with a stereo setup and see what gives. As I already said, there's no microphone in my set up so I don't think the PTT button could be the culprit.
  7. PTT ? (push to talk?) I don't have a microphone, nor another sound card to grab.
  8. I have ATC on a different computer (Radar Contact) and it's fine. I tried all permutations in the FSX output options and it doesn't make any difference whether it's on default or Realtek speakers.
  9. The tick is still there and the yoke is not connected through a hub.
  10. Yes, I installed the latest drivers from the Gigabyte website. My former FS PC behaved exactly the same when starting up : the Saitek yoke was not recognized. But the sound was ok and I never noticed whether it changed the device type in FSX. While typing I get an inspiration : could it be a permission question ? I assume the sound device is somewhere in the FSX.cfg. Permissions could prohibit writing to the cfg file. I'll look into it. I have a lot of hardware connected (15 USB at the latest count) and it all behaves beautifully I plug the yoke in the front USB2 port because I have to u
  11. No, I already did that and there's nothing that points to a sound problem.
  12. Hi, After months of frustration and soul-searching my new build finally works satisfactory except for one detail : sound. First I have to unplug and replug my yoke otherwise it's not recognized by windows and this reverts the sound device settings in FSX to default device. Very irritating but as far as I know there's no solution. What is worse however is the sound constantly fading out and in when I'm flying. I use the on board Realtek sound chip from my motherboard. The control panel sound settings show the Realtek speakers output as default sound device, and the communication dev
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. It turned out to be the Arduino. I switched it for a very cheap 64 input card and now everything is working just fine. I'll definitely keep the ferrite paint in mind though. Martin
  14. Ok, I'll look into it and report back.
  15. Greetings. I recently finished building my new Flight Sim PC and in my quest for unsurpassed realism I added a box with a lot of pushbuttons so I could manipulate panels in the 737 NGX cockpit and send commands to GSX and Radar Contact. I had an Arduino card lying around so I flashed it to make it a HID joystick device and assigned a lot of keypresses via FSUIPC. All was well and it even worked. It was great for moving around in the NGX cockpit untill I started to actually fly. Now comes the weird part. I had only to move my hand in the vicinity of the button box and the PMDG NGX pitched
  16. I might add that it wasn't really a short but a closed switch connected to the Bodnar card. As long as it was closed, FSX would crash when loading the NGX. Also when closed this switch would cause the infamous "end flight" crash. Nowhere was this switch assigned to anything in FSX or FSUIPC.
  17. So I finally narrowed it down to a short in the circuit connected to the Bodnar card. Although no buttons were assigned in FSUIPC and all default planes in FSX worked, the PMDG NGX crashed FSX every time I tried to load it. After physically removing all wires from the Bodnar card everything worked as it should. Very weird findings methinks. Martin
  18. Thanks for your answer. I must point out that the gear lever is connected to the Bodnar card but it's not assigned so it's not doing anything. I know that when i disconnect the Bodnar card everything will work but that's the whole point : I want FSX and PMDG to work while the card is connected, it has done so before without any problems. When I set up my pc I've followed NickN's bible and I'm using DX9. I'm quite sure my pc is set up correctly. I'll have to take some distance now, my frustration level is peaking. (I've been trying to get this to work for three months now) I'll relax toni
  19. I tried this fix although I don't think this is the menu-crash issue. I am still unable to load a PMDG 737 from the free flight menu. I am able to load a saved flight but as soon as I choose "end flight" FSX crashes. Martin
  20. Good afternoon from Amsterdam, Netherlands. This is my first post here in this knowledgeable and friendly forum. I have been trying for some time now to get my configuration to work on my new flight sim pc taking it one step at the time but not having much luck so far. I had it working fairly well but had no traffic with Ultimate traffic 2, PMDG 737NGX and a lot of hardware installed which for me was not a working proposition. So I uninstalled everything, cleaned my pc of any remaining files, removed all my hardware (making a note of the USB ports) and started over. I installed FSX (
