  1. Hello,

...... it's been such along time since I been on this forum that I'm not even sure if this is the correct sub-forum for my topic! ... I now have two harddisks on my computer running FSX under WindowsXP ... However, even though the latest (D:) has plenty of capacity, the original (C: with FSX installed) has much less, and is now getting full-up (only 20go free!!) ... Wherever possible I install new sceneries to disk D:, but as I understand it some sceneries are best kept on the same H/D as FSX (eg ORBX)

...... my question: can I reinstall my MegaScenery California photo-scenery onto disk D:? ... or for that matter can I just "move" the installed stuff (the whole of California) across from C: to D: (or maybe "Copy", and then delete the original) ... afterwards amending the path in FSX scenery menu!

...... just want to avoid messing up this great California scenery package .... !!!!!

  2. Hello everyone ... I have been off this site for some time now, so I apologize in advance if this topic has already been discussed ... !!

But ... has anyone information of reports I have had of Microsoft having sold off the rights to their Flight Simulator to DOVETAIL GAMES ... ???

  3. Now returning to flight simming after a break on other things! ...... but still having the same problems with non-appearing AI traffic (SEE ABOVE)

It's TRAFFIC X that I'm not seeing over photoreal scenery with both Mega CALIFORNIA and Flylogic SWITZERLAND (although in both cases I can hear high level jet traffic ... !!).... could be anything to do with scenery layers? .... (should my TRAFFIC X be above or below my photo scenery ... ???

Interestingly I can see TRAFFIC X stuff over Horizon VFR PHOTO Generatio X ENGLAND ... !!??!!

It's pretty lonely flying in California at the moment .... can nobody help me ......... ????

    David

  4. Thanks chaps ... !!

I have only FSX installed (no residual FS9 stuff!!)

In my FSX config I have:-

... aircraft cast shadows on ground=no

... aircraft cast shadows on itself=no

Before installing MegaSceneryEarth-California I had Justflight TRAFFIC X operating with no problems.

Likewise I have the same problem with Flylogic SWITZERLAND X where neither TRAFFIC X or FSX default AI GA traffic now appears (it reappears immediateley flying out of these photoscenery areas ... !!????!!

  5. Having just installed MegaSceneryEarth photographic for the state of California, I now seem to have lost my general aviation AI traffic ... !!??!!

Although I can still hear airline traffic on the radio I can see nothing!! ... Has anyone experienced the same problem? And can someone tell me how to get my local AI traffic back? .... As soon as I fly out of the photoreal zone I again have all my AI traffic visible at all airfields ....... !!!!

  6. Right! ... thanks, stu7708 ... I'll give it a go, but I seem to remember in FS5 that red hot molten lava was to be seen on the coast with a rather impressive vertical smoke do-da in to the see. This as well as more conventional smoke out of the active volcano inland coming out of its red hot core ...... exciting times;

  7. Mais oui, mes amis ...... but I haven't in fact yet been able to see in FSX the volvanic activity that I remember in previous MSFS! ... what could I be doing wrong?

I'm in 1983 summer-dusk ... should I be at a more specific date/time (January 3rd for example), or is the spectacle there all (this) year round??

Can anyone confirm the position (on the big island, flying south out of HILO and tracking the coast line one should see something surely?!?!)

    Thanks guys ...... David

  8. Well, following my previous post, here are my check flight results:-

At KSAF Santa Fe Municipal ... height=6351ft, runway 02/2 length unknown (I don't have the plate, but itlooked pretty long to me), 13h00 fine and sunny ... in the default Beech Baron 58.

    4 passengers at 77kg each = 308kg / no baggage / fuel at 57%, 109 kilo in each tank = 218kg ... gross t/o weight = 2300kg;

    FLIGHT 1

Wind 324/2 no gusting / 1013 / temp standard 15degC/dew point 5degC (which at this height becomes 2degC)/ flaps zero / prop max / mixture full /

... Absolutely no problem with lift off around 95knots

    FLIGHT 2

as before but with local temp 27degC

... again no problem, with lift off around 100 knots

    FLIGHT 3

as before, but with local temp a more likely 37degC

... difficulty starting but OK with mixture fully leaned, with lift off around 105 knots

In my opinion, local temperature is of critical importance at airfield at this height ...... ie always check the OAT shown on your cockpit panel ... !!!!

    So ... ?? ...... David

  9. Bonjour dogtrack,

Yes, "hot & high" airfields can be killers, especially with short runways ... !! Having said that you should be able to take off at 6500 feet in the default Baron even with 2 people abord!... before you try again:-

1 ... Check fuel load is not unnecessarily high (eg max 25%)

2 ... Check your trim is set for take off (slightly "up/back-nose-up")

3 ... Check outside temperature is not excessivly high (max 20degC)

4 ... Check flaps are fully retracted (or, if runway is really short, at max setting one)

5 ... Check props are at max high and mixture leaned (ie just short of engine running rough)

6 ... Check carb is off (never on on a takeoff!)

7 ... Check you are taking off into Wind (and no excessive cross-Wind)

8 ... Check (just before take-off) that throttle is at max with brakes on ...

9 ... Use as much of the runway as possible (ie start even before the numbers!)

7 ... Ask (discretely) how heavy is your passenger, and has he/she brought any heavy luggage on board ... ??

I'll give this takeoff a try on my simulator this week ... let the forum know haw you are getting on ... and then you can try a take off off at LUCKLA (Himalayas) at more than 14,000 ft I believe ............ !!!!

    David

  10. You might also check your aircraft loadings at this height. How many passengers are you with? how much baggage? how much more fuel than you need have you? ... (look in your FSX aircraft menu) ... but, as has been said, the default Baron 58 should be able to get off at this height!

By the way ... just how long is this airfield ......... ??
