flybytes 34
I wonder if anyone has downloaded or seen an independent review of this FSX payware 384-MB file which places 3-D street/road lights across Europe? http://secure.simmarket.com/3dlights-street-lights-project-europe-x.phtml Ray. dogtrack 346
I already have UTX covering Europe, so no need of it for myself. I do see on the page you linked to though; that there is a small Demo area available for free. Covers Hamburg, perhaps worth a try, nothing ventured nothing gained.
flybytes 34
Arnold, Missed that demo - have now downloaded it and done a comparison with the UTX lighting. In my opinion, above 4,000 ft 3-D lights is much superior to UTX, although I think combining both is more realistic - the sharper light points of 3-D Lights providing a good contrast to the blurry area lighting of UTX. Flying below 4,000 feet the 3-D lights start to exhibit the effect of looking at them through a star-burst filter, and the lower the altitude more and more lights start to exhibit this effect. I had thought that 3-D Lights implied that lamp-posts would be modelled & visible in daytime, but this is not the case - rather than use lit ground textures (as UTX does), the lights are similar to aircraft lights, floating above the ground at heights approximating that of the lighting unit in a lamp-post. I would like to see how 3-D L fits in with photo-scenery, especially GenerationX here in the UK , but as I am using the UTX night lighting I don't need to rush into purchasing the download. One final note, the screen shots on the 3-D L site don't do the project justice - they look slightly blurry and dim - the Hamburg demo does show the project in a much better light (excuse the pun!) - so can recommend that anyone interested should try the demo and make up their own minds. dogtrack 346
Will be interesting to find how it compares to the FTXG 3D lights that are expected sometime. Think they have done Australia for the moment.
