mutley 4,498
This is what happens to wind turbines eventually so beware! This was a storm in Denmark  [liveleak]cdd_1203701257&p=1[/liveleak]
allardjd 1,853
Seems to be an image problem, Mut. From here it looks like a Polar Bear in a snow storm. John
mutley 4,498
Deja Vu John! ..Odd it works for me. Here's a link http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cdd_1203701257
allardjd 1,853
OK, got it via the link. Thanks. I don't have any first-hand knowledge of wind turbines, but understood they have an auto-feather mechanism to prevent just that from happening. I wonder if that was a deliberate test to destruction? ddavid 149
I thought so too, John - but look here: http://jp.dk/uknews/article1277616.ece Wouldn't like to be too close, though.... Cheers - Dai.
allardjd 1,853
Dai, Looks like you're right. If one is still turning in a very high wind, that's an indicator that there's a problem. I think they're designed to feather and shut down above a certain wind speed. There's a good article here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_turbine_design John
ddavid 149
Hey, thanks for that, John. Will read and digest! Cheers - Dai. :star :star :star
allardjd 1,853
This one's interesting. Wind can be quirky and there are risks to getting too dependant on it, apparently. http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN2749522920080228?feedType=RSS&feedName=domesticNews&rpc=22&sp=true Here's another on wind power...
