Lukemeister 6
Guys, I have several questions about FSX for you if you don't mind, here goes... 1) I have noticed with my Amsterdam Schipol scenery that the default scenery bleeds through on the ground, my frame rates aren't the best, would this be a scenery or a performance issue? I have noticed the same at Jersey, and that is the default airport, all the taxiway lines disappear. 2) What is currently the best traffic programme for the UK and Europe? I am currently using Ultimate Traffic and most of the Low Cost Operators appear as default liveries and it really detracts from the experience. 3) I really want to use ATC but flying the PMDG 737NGX, default FSX ATC isn't suitable. I have heard about VATSIM but two things put me off... learning all the procedures and also I don't like the idea of talking to my computer? Is there anything that has been/is being developed that can give me realistic liner ATC experiences? Many thanks guys.
allardjd 1,853
Consider Radar Contact - not perfect but much better than Microsoft ATC. John
mutley 4,498
Sam, the scenery issue is probably due to where the airport scenery level is in the scenery library in comparison to the others, I would move the airports to the top of the table and see if that helps. I use UT2 for traffic and have similar issues but you can import ai aircraft and create a schedule for them. I must admit to never having done that myself but it is an option. With the ATC, I would say that if you want to talk to a person then VATSIM it is, I understand it's not really that difficult to get into and I think there is training available. britfrog 180
i agree with mutleys solution to the ghosting as for atc if you download squawkbox and become a member of vatsim it is quite easy to use there is a trainee available however the best way to learn is to listen to others, so register with vatsim get online with squawkbox download vat-spy . using vatspy you can see which airports or areas are manned. now when joining vatsim you must never join with your plane on the end of the runway, so once you have seen an active airport, position your plane at a gate, then log on to vatsim and tune into the radio frequencies being used, and just listen to what is going on, you dont need to say anything and no-one will bother you just listen and learn, and after a while when you are confident then make contact with atc even if you dont feel confident to fly or taxi just call the atc and say "your reg, request radio check" he will then come back and say receiving you 5's or whatever. before taking off from a busy airport like heathrow or gatwick it is probably better to find a less busy airport to start with as you are bound to make the odd cock up but this way you wont be screwing up a load of others. inevitably you will suffer microphone fright this can happen to anyone so make sure you are confident with how you should answer atc , and this you will learn by just listening to others.
