The number of uploads is greater because of the bundles, but we now have over 3,000 airports actually diagrammed. It doesn't compare to a Jepp set yet, but my prices are better. A tip of the hat to Dave Jones, who pointed out that I'd left the runway widths off the diagram for KLFT, in Lafayette Louisiana a few days ago - now corrected and issued as an update. Thanks, Dave. Quality is not a one-man job. I should not be doing these in the wee hours nor before being fully caffeinated in the morning but sometimes I do. The other update is KSUA, in Stuart, Florida. I'd forgotten what a big airport that is. I was also very surprised by how much different it is in the updated version - many more buildings and some taxiway changes at least - not just labeling either, but actual changes. It may be that the original came from FS9 data - not sure at this point, though I do include a source label now. That one came from April of 2010. The four new ones are from hither and yon, two in the US, including Ft. Worth Alliance, KAFW, which is a pretty good sized place. OMAD, Bateen in Abu Dhabi is a little weird - a 13,200' X 150' asphalt runway, a few buildings, acres of ramp space with a good taxiway system and lights, but no radio frequencies at all and no approaches despite some navaids in the middling distance. Another one of those Middle East enigmas, I guess. I don't have the energy to hunt down the answer. If you've noticed a lot of Pacific Island airports and particularly quite a few from Papua New Guinea, it's because one of the four lists I'm currently using was supplied by Australian Andrew Godden and is expressly for that area of the world. There are a couple of dozen airports left on that list, so you'll continue to see these for a while yet. I have other lists from Andrew too (and from others) and those will have their turn. These are not request lists, just randomized, working lists of airports of interest. Bona fide requests get priority treatment. A user has noted some differences in taxiway labeling between NZCH, Christchurch NZ, from yesterday, and what he's seeing in his FSX. I appreciate the question and the fact that he's trying to use the diagram already. I did some searching around to see what's going on. I've confirmed that the diagram conforms to stock FSX but what he's seeing looks more like the real-world charts for the airport, which are somewhat different from FSX. Just as a reminder to everyone, my diagrams document what's in FSX, not necessarily the real world. Add-on scenery can create discrepancies. brett 2,315
Sounds like Bateen was originally military until 2008 when it was changed over to a executive airport. So it missed FSX and Accel release date. See here at skyvector and the companies site. Wikipeda says; The airport was built in the 1960s and opened in 1969. It became an international airport in 1970. In 1982, all civilian air services were moved to the new Abu Dhabi International Airport and Bateen became a dedicated military airfield. In 2008 the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) converted the airport into an executive jet facility, focusing on private jets. The airport registered 3,391 aircraft movements in the first quarter of 2012.[2] Since 2012, the airport has also been the venue for the annual Abu Dhabi Air Expo.

It's just an unusual layout and it wasn't obvious what was going on until I added the runway shading. There's an east-west asphalt runway that's more or less embedded within a long asphalt apron that is about five times as wide as the actual runway. Besides being an odd configuration, something else was nagging at me and wasn't right. Eventually I figured out that FSX has got the runway width values reversed in their text data. I get the runway table data from the text screen that's part of the map view in FSX - click on an airport in the map view and you get a screen with airport name, radio frequencies, latitude and longitude and a runway table. They're almost never wrong, but this one is. ADE also displays the runway data (also from the stock FSX airport data) as mouse-over labels. After some time clicking back and forth and comparing the two, I figured out that the runway widths are reversed in the table in the FSX map view. I normally religiously use FSX data, right or wrong in these diagrams but this one is just such an obvious boner that it needed to be corrected on the chart to make it agree with the actual airport as it displays in the simulator, and it is. So, for what it's worth, my chart agrees with the physical airport in FSX; the text data in the FSX map view is wrong. There were no similar adventures with any of the others in today's batch of five - all pretty conventional except for N59. I got the usual five done but have a problem with the last one, LFBT. There's a bit of a discrepancy between what ADE is showing me and what I see in FSX. I've asked the master, Jon Masterson at Scruffy Duck, to have a look and I won't be too surprised to have to issue an update to that airport in the near future. The diagram is usable - the problem is mainly with buildings; all the functional stuff, e.g. COM frequencies and such seem to be OK. The others are pretty ordinary. The update, 55J at Fernandina Beach FL was the most complex of all of them but even that one had few buildings, no ILS and no taxiway labeling to deal with. The new one is prettier than the old one and is slightly different in a few details - the original might well have been to FS9 data. It now includes some enhancements that I was not using in 2010 when I did it originally. Because of being served up softballs by the lists, I managed to get five new ones out today even with an update on the schedule. You may know that the map view in FSX emulates Sectional Charts in many ways, including the symbols it uses for airports. For instance, a filled circle with a rough schematic of the runways defines an airport with at least one paved runway. Magenta or blue indicate un-controlled or controlled fields, respectively. Similarly an unfilled magenta or blue circle denotes a field with no paved runways. Interestingly, I've recently become aware that the runway surface type "bituminous" or "bit" on my diagrams, seems to be considered as un-paved. I'm finding runways that have a bituminous surface have the unfilled circle symbol on the FSX map view. That shatters my image of what bituminous really is - I always thought of it as lower-grade, rough asphalt. Maybe not. You might note what appears to be a typo in the airport name and/or city name of WPDB, in Indonesia. It may well be a typo, but it's not mine. I noted the discrepancy and double checked - FSX has it one way for the airport name and the other way for the city name, which may or may not agree with the real world. In any case, you get from me what I get from FSX, so SAUI airport in SUAI, Indonesia it is. I have no comments on any of the others. The Brazil airport of course, is from the ongoing large list that will give us one a day for quite some time. The other was a late breaker requested by Jack Neal - KAPA, the "other" Denver airport, replaced by KDEN once they figure out how to keep the suitcases inside the automated trams there. Jack schleps a lot of AirHauler freight around those parts. Those two aside, every other airport in the bunch just fell out of the lists at random. The fact that all are in the US is just a coincidence. KILN was interesting. It's a big airport with two big runways and a full ILS to all four ends, one a Cat. II. It's in a town in Ohio you never heard of and that prompted me to do a little digging. It was originally built and owned by the USAF but reverted to civilian hands at one point. It eventually came to be owned by Airborne Express and later DHL when they bought Airborne. It operated as a major cargo hub until DHL dropped out of the game in the US. They gave it back to the local civilian authorities about 2009 and it seems they've been marching in place since. It doesn't appear said authorities have much interest in continuing airport operations there. The Wiki article says there "...are no concrete plans..." for it. Not sure if that was tongue in cheek or not. 7N7 in Pedricktown NJ caught my eye by virtue of the airport name, Spitfire. It's privately owned by Spitfire Aerospace Technologies who have a website. It appears to be a grandiose name for an FBO, aircraft maintenance and airplane brokerage outfit. Nothing in their site explains the name and there are no images of Spitfires there, so not sure where it came from. Dillingham in Hawaii was a bit of a disappointment. It was, under a different name, somewhat involved in the December 7, 1941 battle, but apparently wasn't directly attacked. P-40s were launched from there. I don't know what it consisted of them but doesn't appear to be much of a place these days. Wiki says it's owned by the Army but operated under lease by the state. It's got a pretty long runway but that is only 75' wide. There are a few helipads, but only three buildings and not much else. There's no tower and it's not lighted. According to Wiki it's used now mainly for sailplanes, skydiving and Army helicopter training using night vision devices - who needs lights? My friend Steve Austin took some glider instruction in Hawaii once, a while ago - maybe it was there? I guess after one from Hawaii yesterday we just had to have one from Alaska today. It's PASK, in Soldotna, which I've never heard of. None of these are particularly complex airports - I guess FKKD, Douala in Cameroon is the biggest, with two runways in an L configuration. One is closed but the other boasts a Cat II ILS. I have another airport in progress but a long way from being ready to include in this batch. It's a big one and has a lot of time consuming features, including a cubic boatload of custom buildings to put in more or less by hand. That will be the lead-off airport in the batch tomorrow. I'd have bypassed MD57, not because it bears my mother-in-law's name - just because there's not much to it. However, even thought it's a grass strip with no buildings or much of anything else to distinguish it, it turns out that it is lighted, making the cut with my acceptance criteria, barely. I wonder if the average size of the royal harems have anything to do with that. Here's another - OEFD, King Fahd Intl. I've included an update today of the oldest - LFBD, from April 2010. I'm up to the point now where I was including the creation date on the face of the diagram, but many other subsequent changes (some might even be considered improvements) hadn't been implemented yet. The old ones are usable but not up to the current standards. LFBD has gone to two plates, so if you have the old one, remove it manually. The new version, even after unzipping, has slightly different file names and will not overwrite the old one. EVVA, Ventspils, in Latvia, is a strange one. As normal, unless I'm working to a request list, my selections are randomly generated. Currently I'm including one Brazil airport per day from a large request list - all the rest are random choices from a group of lists from various sources. I've even randomized the Brazil list, so they don't come off that in any particular order. The lists give me what they give me - some days peanuts, some days shells. The only remaining bias is the lists themselves; one exclusively Brazil; one covering Australia and Oceania; one that contains only airports from a certain group of countries, mainly English speaking countries, but a few others too; one list is rather Eurocentric. By using multiple lists in parallel, I attempt to minimize even that bias. I'm travelling again, beginning Sunday. There will be no new or updated diagrams for a period of about ten days. I may or may not manage to get a few tomorrow but there will definitely be none beyond that until at least Aug. 28th. None are remarkable except NRQ, in Pace FL. If you don't look at any of the rest, have a peek at that one. There can't be too many like that lurking around. As noted yesterday, there will be a pause in production until at least the 28th. I'm at the point of needing to update the country bundles in the Mutley's Hangar File Library which will probably take at least two days. In the batch on Thursday I completely forgot about the Brazilian list and should have included one Brazil airport in that batch. I remembered after it was too late so am back on the beam with that mini-project. Expect one Brazil airport diagram per day for quite a while yet. I'm reminded again by the FSX map that a bituminous runway surface is considered unpaved. In my mind I always equated that with asphalt, but after doing some reading I now understand that it refers to a tar-like substance thinly applied to an under-surface of some kind of loose material like dirt, clay or even rubble, to stabilize it. Anyway, once again an airport with a bituminous runway surface shows in the map view as unpaved. In this case it was the New Zealand strip, NZUK. Not sure how I got to be this old without knowing that. Oddly, I drove within a few miles of it on Thursday. The usual spike in downloads has come (and probably gone) following the monthly update of the Country Bundle files. Hopefully there will be more but since the weekend has passed, that's probably the bulk of it. Fifty-seven in a day is not too shabby and I'm just going to have to be happy with it.
