britfrog 180
26/09/14 European regulator EASA lifted restrictions on the use of Portable Electronic Devices (PED)include any kind of electronic device brought on board the aircraft by a passenger such as a tablet, a laptop, a smartphone, an e-reader or a MP3 player. Due to this decision, European airlines can also allow the use of portable electronic devices (PEDs) throughout the flight, without the need to be in ‘Airplane Mode’. It is up to each airline to decide to allow the use of PEDs. In order to do this, the airline will have to go through an assessment process, ensuring aircraft systems are not affected in any way by the transmission signals from the PEDs. For this reason, there may be differences among airlines whether and when PEDs can be used. Passengers must at all times follow the airline crew instructions. I cant see what the problem is, after all most pilots use some form of tablet now for all their approach plates and airfield info which is turned on, before, during and after the flight and some a/c have then built in like the 777 and
ddavid 149
Aah - now I know what 'Airplane' mode on my iPad is... I remember the technology of the 50's - on a flight from Gatwick to Perpignan, the DC-3 captain came into the cabin and showed us a paper map of France with our flight plan, pointing, with his finger, to our position over the Massif Central. The stewardess - oops, flight attendant - then came round with the boiled sweets for the descent... Cheers - Dai.
J G 927
I guess the only problem I have with this is on an aircraft you cant go to a quite zone. The thought of sitting next to a business man on a long flight who is continuously babbling into his phone when other passengers are trying to get some sleep is for less than attractive! ... Or - God forbid - some kid on a computer game emitting squeaks and whistles all the time!
dodgy-alan 1,587
I find a sharp jab in the ribs with an elbow often works !
dodgy-alan 1,587
The other thing that you could do is every time he speaks into the phone, you awnser as though he's speaking to you, he'll soon get tired of it then when he asks why, just say that as he seems to be having a conversation it would be rude not to join in since he's right next to you!
jaydor 345
Mobiles. Hell on buses and trains, now adds hell to planes. That should lead to quite a few diversions owing to passenger fights on board.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Mobiles. Hell on buses and trains, now adds hell to planes. That should lead to quite a few diversions owing to passenger fights on board. Or a few bruised passengers as phones get thrown around the plane! I don't fly these days as cannot afford to go anywhere, but I like to sleep on aircraft so if some noisy git was jabbering away alongside me he'd soon get told!
