I couldn't see the point of what he was doing up there. Chipping away a few pieces of precast concrete. With a safety harness on he was in no danger, the only people at risk were the crowd below, if he'd dropped his hammer or chisel someone might have got a bad headache. :stars:

I don't know if it ever freezes there, but if so, repairing small damaged areas is pretty important.  Water and freeze/thaw cycles are pretty hard on concrete.  I wouldn't want to see Jesus disarmed.

 

If that work were done under our OSHA, it would probably require a 500 sq. ft. work platform, designed by engineers, to be built about three feet below the arm with handrails and kickboards all the way around, mesh netting to prevent dropped tools from bouncing through the handrails and the whole thing rated at > 200# per square foot.  After the scaffold was put up it would have to be inspected and signed off by two or three levels of supervision and inspected once per shift until removed.  It would probably be cheaper to just build a new statue.
