MartinW 0
In my quest to find interesting aircraft to crumble your cookie, I came across this. One huge ducted fan. Fantastic visibility from the bubble cockpit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVr3u6E66EM Or perhaps you prefer Project Zero. Two ducted fans one in each wing and electric power. Project Zero’ is a technology incubator – a completely electric-powered tiltrotor concept. It combines airplane performance with rotorcraft flexibility; the capability to take off and land vertically, transitioning to fixed wing forward flight thanks to its integrated rotors, which can be tilted through 90 degrees. The innovations that comprise Project Zero have great potential for integration into future programmes, including: •All-electric propulsion •Direct rotor drive with no reduction gearbox •Individual Blade Control for swashplateless primary flight control •EMA (Electro-Mechanical Actuators) for hydraulics-free Fly-by-Wire system •Rechargeable Lithium battery energy source, with flexibility to hybridize with other energy sources (e.g. Diesel engine) These technologies allow for very low noise and thermal signature as well as significant abatement of chemical emissions, critical characteristics of future aircraft. Project Zero is the result of the first collaboration between Finmeccanica companies – Selex ES, AnsaldoBreda and Ansaldo Energia – and partner companies from Italy, UK, USA and Japan under the leadership of the AgustaWestland Advanced Concepts Group. http://www.agustawestland.com/about-us/driving-innovation/advanced-concepts/project-zero
dodgy-alan 1,587
Got the Opitca in the sim. I did a post regarding it some time ago. Great little aircraft but beset by production problems and financial constraints.
mutley 4,498
I have it too Al! It wasn't a good day for a Hampshire rozzer 30 years ago when he lost his life in G-KATY, probably when turning at a high angle of bank.
