It sounds as if the unions are not willing to take a pay cut and the bail-out investors aren't willing to play if they don't. John
mutley 4,498
Still waiting for the outcome of this. The Italian government owns 49% and are insisting it stays within Italian ownership although the "experts" say however the airline can only survive in the future as part of some European alliance, possibly with the like of Air France, KLM and Lufthansa. From the BBC Future plans for the carrier would see it divided in half, with its loss-making operations remaining under bankruptcy protection and potentially being liquidated.Profitable short-haul routes would be separated into a new business, controlled by a consortium of Italian investors including budget airline Air One which would effectively be merged with Alitalia. Another one bites the dust Cheers

The ball appears to be in the court of the labor unions and they will not agree to concessions in order to keep the company alive. John

One more chapter in this sad story. I wonder who the Pope will fly with now. Lufthansa maybe... :mrhappy: This is looking pretty desparate. I think that they're going under. The unions won't agree to losing 3,200 jobs, so they'll lose all of them. It's not the unions' fault that the line is in the shape it's in, probably, but it's also hard to understand them standing their ground in the face of the airline going toes up.
