more RAM please?

Hi, having moved to P3D V4 I'm really pleased with it, finding it far better than all of its predecessors, I've had them all from FSX onwards.  It runs well on my PC despite having just 8GB RAM, the only nuisance being slow texture loading with the occasional bit of black scenery, aircraft and ai that can take 10-20 secs to complete.

 

My motherboard is an Asus Z87-A and I'm restricted to DDR3 memory and 1.5 volts, currently I have a pair of 1600Mhz 4GB sticks.  The CPU is an i7 4770K Haswell Processor overclocked to 4.3GHz, GPU is a GTX1060, 6GB.  A new PC is not on the cards but what benefits if any would something like a pair of 8GB, 1866Mhz sticks bring to the sim with my current system now?  I don't see any way of getting more than 16GB withoug busting through 1.5v.  Regards, Mark

Don't know much about computers and will leave this to those that do but I can only think that it couldn't hurt and would be a relatively inexpensive upgrade.

As a rule of thumb, RAM capacity above 16GB will have a tendency to slow your PC down.  Heavy(professional) video editing is really the only time when you would need more.  You can set the size of your Paging File to 1.5 times the capacity of your RAM, for those rare occasions when you might need more (very rare indeed).

 

This link will give you details of what your choices are after you feed in your details.  Go for 16GB (2x8GB) of the fastest you can afford.

EDIT:

Just had a look at the Corsair site out of curiosity, the Z87-A board is not listed.  There is an entry for the -C, WS and iDELUX Z87 boards.  All of which seem to be limited to 8GB (2x4GB), no 16GB listings offered.  If that is the case then I would suggest you look at faster speed and low latency pairs.  Your choices look very limited at 1.5v.

Ah, I had messed up my PC part picker list and had inserted two sets of RAM sticks, no wonder I exceeded the voltage!  Looked at again 16GB or 32GB, 2133Mhz Corsair Vengence Pro RAM will be ok but with your suggestion about over capacity Arnold I'll be going with 16. 2133Mhz seems to be the limit, 2400Mhz operates at 1.65 volts.

Hey Mark another consideration is the drive you have the flightsim loaded on. I've have two 250Gb SSDs and a 4th gen it chip and have not experienced any issues. I'm also running 16Gb of RAM so it all contributes.

I've personally never experienced any issues with any amount of RAM causing slow downs. As long as the memory is correctly paired there should be zero issue. 

Some motherboards require the integrated graphics to be set to Max ram (~400Mb) when using more than 16Gb due to some bios issues.

With regard to RAM, I hope  I haven't overdone myself, as I have just ordered and paid for some bits for an upgrade.
