CAT3508 343
Hi Guys, Have downloaded an upgrade version of the Majestic Dash 8-Q 400, for P3Dv4 as I had an FSX version. When I open the zip file, and go to the installer, it will not let me put it into my E: Drive. I have my PMDG 737NGX and A2A aircraft installed there. The destination Folder is E:\ , but the little "next" box is greyed out. I have never had a problem with this destination before. Have tried a few iterations of E drive, such E/ P3Dv4, E/Dash 8. etc. It goes through the motions, but it doesn't install into the sim. Feeling a bit lost at the moment!! mutley 4,498
Hi Neil, I have just installed the v4 version (supplied by Just Flight). My update wasn't supplied in a zip file but an executable named mjc8-400-Pro-1_020x64-inst.exe. When I run the install and accept the licence only P3Dv4 is available as a sim, click next and it defaults to my P3Dv4 folder which it fetches from the registry. I tried the browse option and it would allow me to select any valid folder on any drive, the only way the next button would be greyed out is if the destination folder didn't exist, did you use the browse button to find the folder or did you enter the location directly? mutley 4,498
I can see what is happening now, in the screen that says destination folder you need to type in a folder name after the E:\ eg E:\Majestic, and the next button will appear. Joe
CAT3508 343
Hi Joe, Apologies for the late reply. I downloaded the upgrade from PC Australia, which came in the form of a zip file. When I open it, the executable is named mjc8-400-Pilot-1_020x640inst.exe. Just like yours does, apart from the Pilot bit. When I run the exe, the download box appears, and I took your advice, and entered E:\Majestic. The small "next" button opened. On clicking that, a large box appeared named "Windows Installer" with the following narrative. "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor that this is a valid Windows Installer package". Never had this before with my other downloads. I still clicked run, and the installer did its thing. However, the Dash 8 is still not appearing in the Sim. When I checked the programs list, it shows up in there, although there is no product version number or publisher. Strangely enough, the CSPAN and documents are showing in the start menu and are accessible. I'm just going round in circles at the moment, and have no idea what to do to rectify the problem. mutley 4,498
Hi Neil, Looking at my uninstall program info I have no publisher, size or version info either. So why did you not install it in the P3D directory where your sim is? Unless you have instructed the sim where you have installed the aircraft it won't show. Have a look in C:\Users\[YOUR NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 folder for a file called add-ons.cfg the product installer should have made an entry in there like.. [Package.(next number)] PATH=E:\Majestic ACTIVE=true REQUIRED=false If not, then copy the above into the config file and change the package number to the next one higher. (Obviously making a back up first) See how that goes. Joe
wain 879
I may be totally reading this wrong, what size was your download? could the fact you are installing now into P3D and not FSX mean you neaded a full download and not just and update? Just bought this the other day for P3Dv4 form JF, it was installed directly into the root folder, which is where all my planes went by default apart from A2A... I don't have the entry Joe is pointing you to but I guess that's because mine have gone to default, which ultimately will give me a head ache on any P3D updates as it will probably lead to reinstalls, hence I am still on 4 and not 4.1.....installed like this though it does seem to work, I beleive that A2A are the only ones doing it the recommended way... This is my point Wayne, if it was installed to the default P3D folder then it would show. I reckon the easiest way to fix this is to uninstall using the Windows Programs and Features option , then re-install and accept the defaults offered by the installer. CAT3508 343
It was a 500mb download. Finally found the addons.cfg, and the only entrant was my A2A aircraft. I manually added the Majestic. After saving, rebooting, and starting the sim, it still did not appear. Don't know why my PMDG aircraft wasn't there, but they are in the sim, and flyable. I feel as if I am going around in circles, and getting nowhere fast. Would FSX have any bearing on this problem? Am seriously considering on giving up, deleting the lot and downloading a full install of the pro version. But if I have the same problem, it will be a fair sum of money to waste. CAT3508 343
Well!, Am I a happy chappy. bit the bullet, and completely uninstalled P3Dv4, and did a another install, this time making sure that I used the proper entry in E drive. Completed the install, and then installed the Majestic. It went straight in, no problems at all. Thanks to all who tried to help, with their input. Much appreciated. Cheers, Neil
