It is interesting to see them being used on passenger aircraft, There original intent was to allow military personal to keep track of their instrumentation whilst keeping there head up to avoid threats such as enemy aircraft and the ground. I am not sure what value it has for a civilian aircraft where there is usually enough time to duck in and out of the cockpit when you need some data about the aircraft. lionwing 71 Posted July 30, 2018 Author Report Share Posted July 30, 2018 I think with a commercial aircraft, as with military, it helps improve the all round situational awareness of the flight deck crew. Certainly within FS (P3D in this case) you do feel much more comfortable with the HUD on approach then glancing or panning down every few seconds to check the instruments.
