mutley 4,487
I have just has a very enjoyable flight thanks to Rob, I flew the challenge. What Rob didn't say is this runway should only be for helicopters Still that didn't stop me, real weather loaded. Flight plan from the Portland Navy Challenge viewtopic.php?f=47&t=2656 On runway 20 clearance for straight out departure to the Needles Ah! the good old hangar! Heading towards Southampton River Itchen, getting my bearings One of my favourite GA cockpits. Passing Ocean Village and the cruise liner terminals. Heading out to the New forest Nearly at the Solent heading for the Isle of Wight Over the I.O.W. First waypoint reached, turning West. heading down the spine towards the needles, Alum Bay famous for it's coloured sands to the right. Old military base below, now National Trust property Back out into the Solent heading inshore. Back over the mainland near Swanage and Old Harry rocks in the distance. Still heading direct for WP2 Caravans and tourists "Grockles" as we call them on the South Coast! Heading into Weymouth Bay, there's Portland ahead! About to make a turn at WP2... ... Onto downwind leg. Turning onto an extended base leg. A few tweaks. Searching for the VASi but there isn't one. I can see what USED to be the runway. Pretty much an emergency if I don't land, I'll be late for Tea! Just over the fence, pretending not to notice the X painted on the runway... Stopped without too much problem, the stall warning was going crazy just before landing. Red cross marks the spot. I wonder if I can get out of here Thanks Rob, that was great fun Cheers
rob16584 42
Glad you enjoyed it Joe. I managed to get a B58 down there with one of my AH flights. Getting out was tricky though! What scenery are you using? Is it JF RS?
mutley 4,487
Hi Rob, GenX (v2) and UK2000 VFR Airfields. I find that in this area, Gen X works really well this time of year whereas the JF RS works better in Summer, lucky I have both! Cheers
