The report of the Montana crash seems fairly accurate from what I've heard so far. I normally see red when they use "nosedive", one of their favorite terms. They try to weave it into accounts of air accidents early and often. In this case, it may be justified - other reports I've seen confirm impact almost straight in.

Ice is being looked at as a factor, as is overloading. The PC-12 is normally a 10-12 person airplane and this had more, but half of them were children under the age of ten so there's no smoking gun on weight. Amount of luggage is unknown.

Pilot diverted to his alternate but did not give a reason nor did he indicate any problems. He opted for a visual approach. His approach was to a non-tower airport so his last radio conversation was with center, when he said he'd go visual.

...and Jet A does smell a lot like diesel fuel. Chemically, they're not too far apart.
