I have been looking around and have seen that there is scenery (Tree's) available for the uk from earth simulations. I see that it is suitable for generation x scenery, can anyone tell me if there is large decrease in performance if they are installed.

To be honest, at the FSX default tree setting I found no problem performance wise but I do have a pretty good machine.

Like a lot of things FSX you have to tweak the settings to get the best out of it. Fortunately, there is a specific setting you can add to your FSX.cfg to limit or increase the number of trees per 1km the sim will Display.

TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000

If you have photo scenery then this takes it to another level and is worth every penny IMHO.
