Leg 30: Port Moresby - Cairns

So this section of the ATWV draws to a close, what a great section it's been.

After spending a couple of days in the airport bar with some new friends I dragged myself out of my hammock nice and early to make the short 500nm trip to Cairns. I was looking forward to the scenery on departure and arrival, but not the long cruise over the water!

So here we go...

Getting ready to go, lots of early morning activity on the ramp

Mind those little'uns during the pushback

The early morning start didn't seem so bad, looks like we will get a nice sunrise

Taxing into position, need to be careful of the Fokker taking off on the parallel runway, I will need to turn right to get onto course

Rolling

Both of us are up, the Fokker is far enough ahead for me to safely turn

Climbing through the clouds up to FL340

Settling in for the cruise

After a shortish cruise we are just about to begin our descent into Cairns

Making the final turn towards the airport, a passenger got this nice wingview and posted it on twitter. Don't forget to follow mutleyshangar, JustFlight and fsnut to keep up to date with FS and the ATWC

Getting down to intercept the ILS

Need to keep an eye on the runway, leave Sharon to gaze at the wonderful FTX scenery

Almost there now, winds are calm and the runway is clear

Better keep the noise down so we don't wake the sheep up this early in the morning

We're all parked up at the termainal and finished for another section. I wonder what awaits us in the next one???

That aircraft looked suspiciously like the soon to be released JF A320 Jetliner, naughty!
